Hello tastrucker, I think it was Bamber Bridge, the Toll Bar is reference to the Toll Bar phone exchange which was situated where the A45 meets A46 at what we call Kamakazi (spelling) roundabout, there depot was up on Oxford road opposite where the Peugeot Plant was, car sales there now, hence the had a Toll Bar phone number as we did in Baginton.

How do folks, just wondered if any of you know if its a legal requirement to have safety guardrails (pole and cable) on the top deck? Looked everywhere for the laws on this but failed.
Any help would be great. Thanks

Cheers fella, just need to know for sure as I’ve come back from holiday and they’ve given me a trailer that was meant to be full refurbished but hasn’t and its got no guardrails at all just the metal stumps where the poles slot on.

This trailer never made it onto the road it was well overloaded with a load on. This photo was taken at Carrimore Harelaw, I think a miss-calculation on the design side. The trailer was cut up & the bogie & other parts built into a flat trailer & used in their own fleet.

Think you will find something in the HSE manual working at height. The rails are mentioned in the C & U regs but only for the derogation that I fought for whilst at TE along with the RHA for the cranked posts. We put a lot of time & effort into attaining this derogation at a cost to TE for every other manufacturer & operators to gain from at no cost.

Got to say there is some seriously chunky iron-work making it up, must have been near its weight before they put the load on :open_mouth: .

Yes ADR Carrimore tended to build trailers on the heavy side but they last well, talking transporters here. The rams & tipper bodies were competitive weight wise, both alloy & high tensile steel. We had a few on the job, it was a reciprocal arrangement we used to do a lot of work for them, in fact we took over there transport side.
