For those awkward places that just have a postcode and a named farm/house/business whatever, I use a great little app called DelM8
I tried the month trial while I was on for John Lewis, worked beautifully, saved a lot of time on some of those jobs.
Bought it, use it nearly every day on this job.

Basically, you enter a postcode and it lists everything in that postcode area, houses with number, with just names, businesses, then it pops open Google maps and takes you right to the door.
No, I’m not on commission  .
Just a great little app.

So how much does it cost ?

40 quid a year.

Google maps is free, and does the same, just put in company name etc. Not failed me yet for a new customer.

I think the time it could come to it’s own is for remote residential addresses. It’s generally in the business’ interest to have pertinent details online with map location but unlikely for a house. Royal Mail have a database with accurate info which used to be free to access but I gather it’s chargeable now.

The next best I have found which you don’t have to pay for is through the English flood risk checker. No coverage for Scotland, NI or Wales.

flood-warning-information.servi … k/postcode

Once you have picked an address from the list you can click to view map of risk and the crosshairs are pretty much at the front door. Added bonus you might consider skipping a drop if it’s been raining for 5 days solid…

40 quid?
I’m assuming it doesn’t have truck sat nav status, so I would reckon my new sat nav is better value, but there you go.

No, you’re right, it doesn’t, it just pops open Google Maps.

So when I get an iffy “house name, road name” address, and the sat nav can’t find it exactly, but it DOES have the postcode directions, that’s when I go to this app.
Sat nav for 99% of the journey, height and width restrictions etc, then use the app for the last half mile, right to the door.
Also, this app has picked up some new builds that the satnav didn’t.
Ok, it’s not for everyone but at 76 pence a week…I kinda like it.

Yes, absolutely right. Private houses, not limited to remote places either. You’d be surprised at how many houses have just names and not numbers in and around London (Which is where I use it a lot).

Just an update…as I know everybody has been worried and on the edge of their seats about how my sat nav situation is, I’ve had hundreds asking me…well one guy.
Ok, I volunteered the info to him

So are you sitting comfortably?

Got a new battery off a firm called Subtel, it came with a little tool kit for a total of about 12 quid.
A bit fiddly and technical for me who has the patience of a grizzly bear with a sore arse, so got the boy on the case,.(who gets his patience from his Mam.)

Anyhooo my old sat nav works great now, :sunglasses: and still guiding me around the roads built for hand carts.
So boxing up my new one and taking it back to shop for refund…win win situation.

Still can not figure why a new model does not have basic features on it any longer, so is therefore a step back, rather than an improvement
So you can now all sleep at night again,.and thanks for worrying about me.

Seriously though, Rob toptip alert…
You could save a few quid by using that firm (Subtel) rather than fork out for a new sat nav…of whatever persuasion or type you choose to use, …and how dim and egotistical you may be.
(Not gonna let that go on here btw.  )

Looks like modern one to me :open_mouth:

You can tell the difference if you “zoom out” on the display and look at Wales. If it’s a modern one it has all the new roads on it - if it’s an old one it just says “Here be Monsters”
