I cannot understand why you’d spend £100 on a none truck version when for less you can get a truck specific model. By truck specific I mean not only can it use the weight, height and length of your vehicle but it has a nice big screen as well.
Me myself use a top of the range Tomtom 6250… It’s fine but can sometimes give odd routes which I’ll ignore and go my own way. Same for all satnavs. Nice thing about the tomtom is the live traffic information.

I heard dvsa issue fines if you use a car sat nav.
So I heard on a cpc course anyway. Guy on there knew a guy who knew a guy who had ben fined 2 weeks wages for using a car sat nav
Not sure if it’s been considered for law or not, but councils were certainly throwing the idea around a couple of years ago. Don’t know if it would be something checked on a roadside stop, more of another stick to beat you with if you’ve just peeled the roof off a trailer.
What I would like to know, if we have to use these, will councils be held responsible for ensuring the correct and up to date weight limit information is sent to the manufacturer, along with a list of narrow roads? This works both ways…hgv sat nav are far from perfect with their routing and still require common sense from the driver. And ultimately, if the driver hasn’t checked his height/set the height indicator before setting off, what makes you think they’ll set it in the sat nav?!
So, if so what about the guys who do not use any type of sat nav? (like me up to about 10 or so yrs ago)
Has it really got to the stage where they are advocating for it to become THE LAW that we are all to be spoon fed to be able to do the ■■■■ job…
Is it really coming to this…how crap do they think pro drivers are exactly?

You can’t?
Well let me help you…I don’t NEED a one, and manage PERFECTLY without a one.
I find,.a brain, initiative, years of experience and common sense work quite as well, but each to his own.
Even if I did get one, some of the roads I go on which were built for horse and carts, the thing would be diverting me ■■■■ miles around.
Does that answer your query?

No it does not.
If you want to go down those roads you still can. You are simply paying more to have a device which does less and is less suitable. And we wonder why people say drivers are dim?
If you get a sense of achievement/elitism from using a car saynav then crack on. If you are hardup and it’s saving you money then fair play - but you can get the real thing for less money.
Stop letting it be about your ego and get the propper tool for the job.

Thanks for the advice mate…I’ll file it under the ‘trying to teach your grandma how to ■■■■ eggs’ dept…
Been having a quick fiddle with it, (oooh matron ) …and I’ve just noticed another shortfall compared to my old TTom start 20 (Aye, I know, I’m getting ■■■■ boring now )
If for eg you cross ref the given route with a map, and discover there is say a low bridge on route, or even if you prefer to go another way, I would usually just put in ‘Find alternative route’ then ‘Travel via’…job done.
On this one you can’t,.so the only way is to put in each chosen change of route town, separately as a required journey…slight ball ache, but I’ll manage.
Still.can not figure why they change basic formats on so called ‘improved models’ when they had systems that worked perfectly,.and in fact imo better…ie this example, and the postcode thing on the other model.
This thread is riveting stuff innit.

You could also put in a manual permanent roadblock on the Start 20 for any bridges you knew about or found. This feature has possibly disappeared too, or I just can’t find it on my new satnav. The eventual reason I upgraded was when the number of months my maps were out of date was getting ridiculous.

I managed to keep my maps reasonably up to date on the 20.

For those awkward places that just have a postcode and a named farm/house/business whatever, I use a great little app called DelM8
I tried the month trial while I was on for John Lewis, worked beautifully, saved a lot of time on some of those jobs.
Bought it, use it nearly every day on this job.
Basically, you enter a postcode and it lists everything in that postcode area, houses with number, with just names, businesses, then it pops open Google maps and takes you right to the door.
No, I’m not on commission .
Just a great little app.
I keep The TomTom app up to date on my phone as a backup, this is a subscription service @£9 for 6 months, but it’s always up to date and I can download any worldwide map I choose, which is handy for fly Drive holidays.
I’ve changed TT batteries before, iirc they are a T3/T5 screwdriver tool to open them, the battery resembled an old 1”x 2” Nokia phone battery.
Something else as a cab upper I discovered recently was plastic outer of the TT USB power cable next to the ends was starting to crack up due to constant flexing when I’m setting it up/packing away, exposing the inner wires which could potentially snap them and leaving me without means of powering up the TT. So it was out with the electrical tape and bind up the cable to reinforce it, and I ordered a spare cable to carry in my pocket for when it does eventually break, as it don’t want to be pulling my hair out & getting frustrated on the final mile. I also got a spare phone cable and ciggie charger “in case”

Seriously?..
If we don’t have the correct Pratt-Nav we could be fined?

So how much does it cost ?
40 quid a year.
Google maps is free, and does the same, just put in company name etc. Not failed me yet for a new customer.

+1…
Yesterday they swapped my load for one I hadn’t done before in Walsall. I used Waze for the last two miles in and despite being the drop being ringed by weight limits I pulled up outside the door with no drama at all.
Just like we all did long before tekknowlodgee arrived.

Cheers, not bad at all , something to defiantly consider if I get back in to work.

Thing is I covered rural Aberdeenshire / Cairngorn national park, sometimes I relied on the Ordnance survey maps !!
