I’ve just tried to tax my car to find my MOT is out of date by almost a year, I’m horrified, and I don’t know how I’ve forgotten about it for this long. I’ve booked it in first thing tomorrow morning but what I want to know is, can I be fined retrospectively?

NO - the offence is driving it on the road without a current MOT unless an exemption applies and for that to happen the driver must be caught in the act of doing it
Not as far as I know. There isn’t any legal requirement to have an MOT if the vehicle isn’t being used on the road and your pre-booked test gives you an exemption (as you know)
