I’ve been going through, arranging insurance for my van. I’ve got a 1.2l Combo van, which I use for going from home to the yard - total distance of about 1.5 miles, and estimated annual mileage of about 1000 miles. I’ve got no NCD, as our family car is insured in my wife’s name, although a lot of companies will ‘mirror’ this NCD (full amount) for me. Giving my occupation as HGV driver, the cheapest quote I can get is nearly £500 per year! If I try using librarian as occupation, it comes down to about £400.
So I’ve been looking around for a cheaper vehicle - I found a 20 year old Fiesta, 1300, value of £200 - this comes out as over £600!
I’ll contact Adelaide on Monday to see what they can do - they don’t do van insurance, but may be able to help if I change to a car!
So any ideas what the cheapest cars / occupations are for insurance?
Never, ever tell them your a professional driver, the best one is window cleaner, but don’t say you use it for work ,only for pleasure.
don’t put anyone else on the insurance, because anyone can drive it if they have their own insurance.

Problem is with ‘comparethemeerkat’ site is you have no choice over which toy you get hence I have two the same, price of insurance for my Connect '05 van with full H&R insurance and for courier type work is £1640 +/- and £950 excess, (robbin barstewards). My 10 yrs + NCD is on my traders policy.
If you add your missus on it will likely bring the cost down. Also, if you arrange a limited mileage policy you may find this helps, though you may have to try a specialist company.
If you lie about your job and get caught out, you will find you have no insurance and that you may get a tug which could result in 6-8 points…and may result in your job being lost depending on your company’s policy, so think carefully before lying. OK you will get away with it perhaps, but if you were unlucky enough to be involved in any large claim, they’d poke their noses in an awful lot…

I’ll try with the missus on, but as for the mileage - it’s already based on 1000 miles per year!

know it sound’s daft, try upping the mileage, as believe that insurers tend to class low miler’s (like your self) and high miler’s in the same risk catogray’s for some reason.
droped mine from from 12k to 5k a year and it droped from £1500 to £1200, (due to change of job), and my renewal has just about halved to £700
