When I get around to writing about my last trip you’ll be glad you’re nowhere near the place believe me

oh dear, sounds bad. snow?
you still doing the tour work out there?

Snow :unamused: , according to our town records it was the largest snowfall in one hit since 1941 , thank goodness for Bobcats and 4x4

:open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: a fair bit then.
i’m assuming that because its such a regular event in the winters out there, the authorities are much better at dealing with it?
how about your night heaters when it gets extreme?

When winter comes the trucks run 24/7 ,shut them down when fueling to check the levels and all that .Personally shut mine down overnight between 0 and -10 because I have a real cozy bunk heater ,but tonight at minus twenty it’s best to leave it running , and I’d rather listen to my motor all night than the guy beside me idling at 1100 rpm in his crappy old Frightliner , not to mention the pricks with their reefers who park next to you ,totally oblivious to the world around them ,of course that’s not unique to N America :unamused:

flat to the mat, cheers.
i had heard somewhere it was quite common for motors to be left running through the night out there.
i asked, as we were in germany a couple of christmas back, down in mannheim and 1 night we were surprised it dropped down to -20. i havn’t seen it that low very often. a couple of the trucks, (newer ones surprisingly) had probs with their night heaters.

It was company policy wae my first firm over here 0- neg 20 inc windchill switch off at night .
-20 and lower keep it on medium idle better that than not starting . oil dipstick was marked for engine running checks.
f d up the idle bonus though. :unamused:
jimmy

Most nights I end up next to some unit with the engine running all night that makes my reefer seem like nothing

Our man tells us to idle when it gets down to around -15`c, must admit I do tend to sleep well with it running

I’m the complete opposite, I hate having mine running, I dont like the shuddering and things vibrating in my cab (especially the bloody microwave!) though at least when you have your own running, you dont hear other peoples. I’m currently in the Flying J in New Milford, PA and 95% of the trucks must be idling, but then most Americans dont know what a night heater is, let alone have one.

must admit when we were doing spain a while back, i preferred it when i had a frozen load, over a chilled.
in the end, found the constant hum of the fridge sent me to sleep. (when parked)
the same can not be said when running chilled/frozen containers. jeez those gensets can be L O U D.

Great diary and the pics are brilliant.
If I were a single man I’d be aving some of this myself I reckon, gota be better than driving a shed merc every bloody day. :imp:
