Aposhark,
I havnât time to go imto things for you but I will sugest you have a look through this âEx Patsâ section to see how the question has been answered lots of times before
Good luck
Well, the easiest way to get into any foreign country is to marry a native. Which is what I may well doâŚ
Canada is easier than the US, but many Canadian companies are looking for people with at least 3 years of UK class 1 experience. I know, I asked, and i have a UK class 2 as well. Seems that 6 months of US experience driving at up to 50t gross doesnât count for much with some people.
Tick box recruitment⌠gotta love it
Though do trust me on this fact: If you can drive a truck well in the UK, you can do it ANYWHERE. Most of the midwest is so empty youâll wonder where everyone is. Get out east or west tho, and itâs like being back home.
Best advice: Get plenty of experience, and then look for ways to get into trucking in another company. I have 18 months of class 2, and 5 years of light haulage experience, and itâs not been easy yet. I know getting class 1 back home is damnably expensive, but itâs a big help in getting into Canada.
Alli,
I am sure that this site is the same as most and is monitored by INS etc, probably with some user name, so informing all that you intend to marry a citizen just for a green card will go down very well
It isnât just walls that have ears these days
This was not intended to annoy you, just some very good advice
Enjoy

Hey Pat,
I thought that Walls had sausages
Jim
Iâm not marrying any septic for no green card. Besides, certain technicalities that I wonât air in public would likely prevent that working for me in the US.
Itâs the socialist republic of Canuckstan Iâm going for. Much better. They have Tea! And Chocolate! And they can spell!
Trust me, Canada is better. Been here only a few days, and itâs so much nicer. Less BS and far more easy going. And a marriage has to have something more than just emmigration as an end result, or A: itâs not worth it, and B: itâs gonna get you in trouble sooner or later. Iâm not being quite that dumb. I checked the rules you know
And I thought walls had ice-cream
I was only jesting Alli
Anyway itâs not âWallsâ here, itâs called 'Good Humor"
Good luck in Canada, have you found some work yet
Got a driving assesment later this week with Loadrunner in Winnipeg later this week. And here comes over an inch of snowâŚ
You mean 2.5 cm of snow, donât you?? Seriously, if 1" of snow bugs you, trust me, you ainât seen nothinâ yet!!!
I think this weather is marvelous It are two days to Thanksgiving and still warm and sunny we are usually under snow long before now
I hope it never snow again
Iâm not too worried by an inch of the white stuff. I was just hoping to get my driving assesment out of the way before it hitâŚ
Had 2 inches back home last year, and I got a night trunk that night, in a merc actros with 'telligent (EPS Mk2) and Iâd never met that box before. Had a few twitchy moments, but I didnât break anythingâŚ
Besides, Iâll get used to it, there will be another couple feet of it in the next few monthsâŚ
Oh, and Pat? The snow we just got, is headed your way. Probably just a wet â â â â by the time it gets to you thoughâŚ
G,day Allikat
Did you get your class A in the states â â ?
Skippy
im sure this question has been asked a thousand times and going through the archives gets a bit mind numding but if i got into canada would i have to sit a full training course as iv got 9 years class1 experience or some sort of refresher .what kind of wage could i expect doing day work in ontario
Skippy: Didnât get the class A, but can still quote semi-experience.
Carl: Yes, youâd need to get a new licence mate. If you can drive a crash box on the wrong side of the road at 75, then youâll sail it mate
Carl i had 8 hours air brake class by law and just 6 hours on the road with test, didnot even leave the ind est.
Is it cold in Calgary mate? Itâs down to -35 here tonight. And another 10 or 11 of windchill⌠(in C)
Iâll be on the roads in January, watch out for me. UK style Allikat plate in the window
No it isnât cold here Alli, 4c Christmas Day, it started snowing at 5pm.
I was in Saskatchewan on Wednesday and it was cold!
What status did you get on visa? Was it work or landed? My company is starting to think about bringing over Brits.
Have you sorted out the tea yet? You can get Tetley teabags in the Canadian Superstore, i think their known as a different name in your place, all the shops seem to have a green roof and itâs part of Westfair Foods. You can also get cream crackers, McVitieâs biscuits, branston pickle, ribena and Marmite. And in the English shops in Calgary you can get Bisto gravy granuals and Sage and onion stuffing.

You can get Branston Pickleâ â ?
There is a major problem over here since a fire in the factory.
Christmas was ruined
Cliff Warby has some Tetley Tea Bags on his truck. He said so on âWhere are you going this weekâ
My status will be a work permit, 2 years down the line I believe, I can go for landed status.
There is tea, got that sorted, I even found an acceptable Canadian brand too. The choccy is good, and Iâm off to raid the Boxing Day Sales in Winnipeg in a while, and will probably spend a stack on nice stuff
Kate came back from the local supermarket with Branston Pickle, Nutella and Pickled onions on Friday
