Canada and criminal record?

Am i right in thinking that if i have a criminal record i cant move to canada?
Nothing major, over done it with the bar room scraps in my youth a few times
Is my miss spent youth gonna ruin my dream of driving artics all over?

You won’t know 'til you try.

Just be completely honest if there’s a chance they’re still on your record.
Getting turned down for a record you admitted is better than getting in and them finding out, you could look at jail time for lying.

The last time i looked at this, (which was ages ago) they seemed to be ok with spent sentences but if you have anything drunk driving or drug related, or you’ve been inside then they will turn you down.

There is some information aimed at truckers here which mentions needing a police certificate but doesn’t really give any more information.

It’s probably worth contacting this lot

theres a couple over here with that on their record and been no probs, as long as its not smuggling or the likes of. good luck

I think you will find that you will have to be deemed rehabilitated under Canadian law . Could be wrong as you are already there

You shouldn’t have a problem as long as you don’t hide it. Best to go and get a report of your record first so that you know in detail what they have on you. You could have a problem crossing the U.S. border, but I think they only check for a record in Canada. To cross the border, ou will have to apply for a crossborder permit where they do check for a Canadian or a U.S. record. Drug crimes is a real sticker with the U.S. Many Canadians can’t get into the U.S. for a simple drug charge from many years ago.

Surley it would be spent if you had a police record from more than 2 decads ago :open_mouth:
I would have thought there would be no problem, assuming you have been good for 20yrs  ,

Has anyone else gone over with a blimished past

Anything in the UK over 12 years if a minor/misdemeanor charge is qualified as spent iirc. I know this isn’t Canada but I applied and got a (can’t remember the name) a document from New Scotland Yard which stated my indescretions (yes, those pesky bar fights back in the 70’s). :unamused: This I passed on to immigration and there was no problem. In fact I changed careers after arriving here in the US and those previous skills learnt in the bars came in useful!!

ok thanks for all your advice.
