Can I split 3day weekly rest to 1reg + 1red

I’m afraid I’m asking this partially out of laziness as I don’t really know about shift patterns, and so I’m expecting just a ‘yes’ or ‘no’.

Is it possible to do 6 on 3 off, but move the third day to sunday if sunday doesnt land on a weekly rest? so that your weekly rest still counts as regular using the additional saturday to make up for reduced rest in overlap (which I’m assuming the third day is for?)

Basicly I like going to the pub on saturday night.

at present I’m on fairly normal weeks, but would be interested to know if this is possible.

Do I get this right …

You are off every sunday plus at least two days together every other week?

If that is the case then its legal

I don’t understand what you mean by “the additional Saturday”, where does that come from ?

Apart from that, working on the assumption that you work days, I’ve just calculated it over 13 weeks starting on a Monday after a regular 45 hour weekly rest period and it seems to work for at-least 13 weeks.

I’m not prepared to calculate it any further than 13 weeks with the information given.

I will say this though, unless you have a good understanding of the weekly rest rules and can competently work out what rest days count for what weeks, and what rest days can be used as compensation for the reduced weekly rest periods that occur, I would not advise you to do a shift pattern like you’ve described.

Having said that, without knowing what you mean by “the additional Saturday”, it may be that there are no reduced weekly rest periods, it’s not possible to say without understanding what you mean.

It seems to me he’s on some kind of rolling shift pattern and sometimes he has to work a Sunday but would maybe like to do a shift swap in some cases so he never has to work Sundays, well I think that’s how it reads.

That’s not the way I’m reading it, as far as I can see he wants to work 6 on 3 off, but move the third rest day to the next Sunday when that Sunday doesn’t fall on a rest day.

I’ve no idea where “the additional Saturday” comes from though.

Is my brain fried because I am thinking that means he has every sunday off plus at least two day off together every other week … yes?

As far as I can see he hasn’t said anything about having a regular weekly rest period every week, he’s said he want to work 6 shifts then have 3 days rest, but sometimes wants to move the third rest day.

I said regular every other week = 2 days off together

Sorry I was doing something else whilst reading your post

According to my quick calculations, over a 13 week period he would have a regular weekly rest period at-least every other week.

Beyond the 13 weeks I’ve worked out I don’t know how it works out.

No :grimacing:

No you can’t

alix776:
No you can’t

Why exactly ?

Unless im reading it wrong he wants to do a weekly rest in 2 parts

alix776:
Unless im reading it wrong he wants to do a weekly rest in 2 parts

You are reading it wrong

He intends to take the third day of a 3 day rest and move it to a sunday if none of those three days is already on a sunday

Doing that would mean he has every sunday off for a reduced every week and it also leaves at least two days off together in at least every other week for a regular weekly rest
