Camera vans and their view on trucks

I bet they catch a fair few truck drivers out on dual carriage ways doing 56mph.

Passed one yesterday on the A47 Peterborough dual carriage way on the other side of the road and just down the road i saw a truck overtaking another truck completly unaware what was looming ahead, - i doubt he was doing 50 mph. Must be a good money earner as he has been their before.

Also today on A46 east bound just past warwick sitting on the fly over, you could see him a mile away but no doubt some people would of been caught!!! (I was doing 50 mph)

I think the ACPO guidelines are 10% +2 which would mean doing 57 in a 50 but that dos not mean that they cannot prosecute for anything over the 50

I thought on another topic of similar nature some one said this ACPO guidelines of % speeding was’nt true and they could do you for 1 mph over  ,

Nothing againt you ROG just i remeber reading it but i may be wrong, and if thats the case i retract my statement  - but cant remeber what the topic was about that mentioned & +etc speeding.

Remember they are only GUIDELINES

Guidelines for the police when they stop someone, camera operators don’t pull people and look at the circumstances, they all adhere to the ACPO guidelines some way above it.

I think even with the police be hard pressed to get stoped and done by them being under the ACPO guidelines, only times its prob happens if the road conditions are really bad like it was really foggy and little visability and your still doing 73mph or if its a 40mph limit and the schools coming out and loads of kids on the road and you blast by doing 43mph.

Or the classic you start getting really arsey with the police, tell them to go catch real criminals.

I doubt very much camera vans can even tell the difference between a HGV and a car, maybe wrong but very few technologies can, unless they have weight or height sensors. WOuld mean having to scan in every vehicle going over 60mph and access a database check it was allowed to or not.

do you think a camera van would do a truck that’s on over run on a motorway? Anyone know what speed they snap a truck at? 61? 65? Always did wonder that.

Peace and love

You got something you wanna share Steve?

lol i’m saying nothing

I’ve heard that but don’t know whether its true or not. If you saw a guy about to throw a brick through the jewellers window and you told him you didn’t think it was a good idea, could you be ‘done’ for preventing that crime?

Supposedly can be done for perverting the course of justice which is a pretty serious offence, found this one a web site.

"Police forces sometimes give warnings that drivers could be prosecuted for perverting the course of justice if they try to alert other drivers to speed traps. But there have been very few successful prosecutions. "

Supposedly its a grey area.

We know trucks have limiters.

Was the law ever changed ?

Is the speed limit on motorways still 60 ?

most of the vans have a guy sat in the back i think hell be able to tell the difference :unamused:

why would anyone wish to go more than 60mph anyway?

just let it go down windy hill fully freighted , flashing the cars to get out the zb way , good fun or what.      .
well it used to be till digis arrived

But it’s more interesting if the traffic is backed up from Milnrow to the Hollingworth viaduct and you have to stop! That is if you made it to the viaduct

From what ive heard the guys in the van just set it up, its just a mobile speed camera, it isnt like a radar gun where they target vehicles coming along the road.

It just monitors all the traffic coming along the road, films vehicles speeding and its then taken back to base and downloaded.

I did 20 over past a copper up a certain slip road on the A34 a few years ago going home from work in my car. I turned around and went up the slip southbound and back down past the copper to see what he was up to. Sure enough he had a speed gun, but I never heard anything. I couldn’t believe it… :open_mouth:

:bulb:
You didn’t flash the driver to warm him/her of a speed trap.
You flashed the driver cos you recognised the truck from a pic on TruckNet and was attracting the drivers attention so you could wave, n post in the ‘Who did you see this week?’ thread.
It turned out to be another truck and driver from the same company.

GOOD WORD THAT satirical I NEED TTO REMEMBER THAT ONE

wont get me anymore.
i was knicked for 56 in a 40mph “hgv limit” road 6 years ago.60 limit , but a single carriageway. hence 40mph hgv limit.
A17 near spalding.white , unmarked transit camera van.
apparently he got a shed load of Geest wagons that day.
illegal so knicked.
fair enough.
since then, i am a complete pain in the arse to mr car driver.
50 on duals , 40 on singles , and limiter on the motorway.
sure it pees of my TM, but i work 99% local work, so not such a problem.
how many of you guys drive 100% legal speedwise?
i bet there arent many.
i know of about 1 guy on my firm who insists on sticking to the hgv limits besides me.

it is a radar gun and video and they have to make a decision as to if you are travelling at an excessive speed before they press the trigger!! trouble is they just look through the sights thinking there on a video game and zap everyone! been done twice for speeding over 20 years and both times by a scamera van! all i will say is be extra carefull in scumbria because they are really sneaky especially when it comes to setting up 50 yards after a dual c!!! :imp: :imp: :imp:

Look out in wales as they have camera van masquerading as horse box’s/burger vans parked on side of road/lay-by. :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :exclamation: :exclamation: :imp:

speaking of the A34 heading north towards the M40 after newbury some roads have the camera markings on them after you have passed a bridge not before.

Therfore is the camera behind me taking a picture or are they left over markings from old im concerned about them as it was night time and it was only when i had gone over them that i relalised oops
