Cahors to Bayonne

Go stitched up next week as its a Bank Holiday in France Tuesday. I have got a collection at Cahors, France next week and then another at Bayonne. Trying to work out quickest route as it looks a lot of cross country minor roads! Anyone help me find a decent route?

I would say the quickest and most fuel efficient route would be from Cahors down to Toulouse and around to Tarbes then onto Bayonne, But i have done lots of removals in and about this area and have done many cross country jaunts lol , You could cut over to Agen, condom, and mont de marsan, Rough route, as shorter, but all in all i would say the first route would be quicker, but not as interesting

Karl’s advice is pretty much spot on, although there’s another alternative, taking the A62 towards Bordeaux once you pass Montauban and then the ‘new’ A65 down to Bayonne - probably slightly less interesting but likely better on fuel economy. Our subbies TDS from Bayonne always take this route.

The road across country from Cahors to down here in Agen is a fairly winding one, with hills, small villages and several speed cameras, and then the trek across to Mont de Marsan is mostly flat after the village of Durance but lots of corners and timber trucks to keep you awake. We use this route from Agen to our depot in St Sever, and it’s okay, and will save you 100km overall from Cahors - Bayonne, plus a fair lump in péage fees. There’s also the advantage of some decent routiers along the way (Le Passage, or Lavardac to name two), compared to the bland service stations in the region.

Just thought of a final alternative route, a mix of nationals/departementales and autoroutes: Cahors - Villeneuve - Aiguillon - Damazan, then pick up the A62 and finally the A65 south. Give me a shout if you’re heading past Agen after midday, I’m on local nights this coming week :sunglasses:

Thanks lads. i am favouring the cross country route after all! Might as well get paid to see some of France rather than tramp the Autoroute from start to finish!

There used to be a good place to park in Cahors. Just over the bridge over the river on the ring road around Cahors there is a supermarket with a large parking area, on the left side of the road. There’s a McD just before the bridge.
This was on the main road around Cahors, used while they were building the autoroute past it, several years ago. It’s a nice place with some interesting stuff around, including a fortified Roman foot bridge over the river. Well worth a look around if you get the time.
