Cab red night light

What are them little red lights for? Guessing they are to prevent you losing your “night vision” as such? But why do you drive with them on?

I used to find they eased the glare when night driving.

regards dave.

Everyday is a school day, thanks

61 plate scania and I’ve got them. Not all that useful though.

Can I have a green light please :frowning:

When you’re parked up for the night with other wagons, you put your little red light on and dance provocatively in the window to show the other drivers that you’re open for business.

If they use yellow fog glasses to ease the glare , why don’t they use yellow interior light instead of red?

not sure about that. ballistic goggles come with clear, smoked and yellow lenses. the yellow ones somehow filter the darkness to help you see better. i didnt know that until i tried yellow lenses in the dark and saw the difference myself. dont ask me how about the physics though because i dont understand how they do it, i just know that they work in low lighting conditions

I find the yellow lenses good in the fog, & for sunglasses I find the brown driving lenses far better than the black lenses. Though why they use red lights in the cab instead of another more calming colour, is a bit of mystery .

Red is also used on the bridge of ships at night as well, it doesn’t destroy your night vision.

I’m sure they use green light as well on the ships, when I was a kid I used to go for eye testing with the shipping company bods.
The red lights I find harsh after a while & the blue lights really hurt my eyes .

Our XFs have the red lights, some illuminate the cabs and some just do the lockers, the tray thingy on the engine hump :sunglasses:

If I had one truck allocated to me I would see about changing the bulb to a more soothing colour.

Possibly in the commercial shipping world, but in the 25 years I was in the Royal Navy, I only ever saw red lighting in the bridge, red and green are used for the port and starboard ships external position marking.

Don’t know, it was my father’s job to bring the massive ships in an dock them. On the eye testing we had to identify the colours of lights over three miles away. I just been for another eye test & optition says long vision is better than 20/20 so happy days.
I just don’t get on well with certain colours as they can be quite harsh.

2 pages about interior red or green night lights :open_mouth:
Should I be cleaning the tread on the steering axle wheels with a toothbrush or would a paintbrush be adequate?

I know where you can get 5th wheel & Ratchet Strap Polish :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:
