How did your test go?
Thanks for the messages guys⌠Unfortunately I failed again!! Had a brain â â â â and hesitated on a roundabout, pulled out and caused somebody to slow down that was coming round! I said he did come round pretty quick, but that donât matter apparently. Only got 3 minors on top of that . Gutted but hey ho we go again. Iâm â â â â â â off coz I know I can drive. Even the examiner said it.
Merry Christmas everyone

Sorry to hear that , at least you are not in a tier 4 area and your test went ahead and you gained more experience , I passed my theory test on the 7th of December and still waiting for a practice test date from my school

Hesitation AND pulled out on a roundabout?
Thatâs bad luck mate.
Best bit of advice I was given was to take everything slowly. Drive slowly and carefully, brake slowly and carefully, pull off slowly carefullyâŚ
Itâs a test and they only have a set amount of time. The more time you waste pulling off slowly, the less time theyâve got to fail you.
When you get in the real world youâd be surprised how similar it is to your test. You drive carefully. You donât rush for anyone. You NEVER let anyone rush you for anything or any reason. Youâre the driver. Youâre responsible for the load. If youâre not happy it doesnât go anywhere.
YOU are responsible for that vehicle and load. Everything goes at YOUR pace. YOU are the boss as soon as you put your card in that tacho.
Youâre not a taxi driver or Amazon van driver. Youâre taking responsibility for a massive vehicle and heavy load. The examiner wants to see you take that huge responsibility seriously and confidently.
Youâll do it mate. Best of luck next time.
âYeah, I thought I was perhaps taking a little bit too long at the roundabout and was worried what the examiner was thinking, once Iâd hesitated slightly and pulled out, a car came round quickly and had to slow down. So thatâs what he got me on. Never mind we go again⌠thanks for the message
Just to offer a little bit of context to the marking of these faults. No-one ever failed a test for waiting (for as long as it takes) for a safe opportunity to go. Loads of folks fail for thinking theyâre waiting too long and so moving away when it isnât safe. Driving slowly all the time is to head for a fail as itâs not showing competence. Driving slowly where it is correct to do so will never be an issue.
Put simply: when itâs safe - go. When it isnât - sit tight.
Another little saying of mine: drive as fast as you can, all the time, safely and legally. (That does not equate with drive slowly)
I fully understand the pressure of driving tests, but this really isnât rocket science and good instructors will drum it into you.
Good luck all, Pete S
Sorry to hear it didnât go to plan, it â â â â â when you know you can do well and just didnât get the judgement quite right on a manoeuvre and fate sealed by other people not driving as well they should really, but for us that want to drive trucks for a living the need to have better ability to judge what is going to happen is something that, and quite right should be better than regular drivers,
you can do it just need to all be spot on as wanted during that hour on the road, not a roundabout but when i failed my cat c, same reason but too quick on the brakes for car behind,on a pull over to the left(last one as well grrr) and while its easy to say that people should stay back and have space in front of them to stop no matter what I didnât allow for it so it was a fail My examiner said you threw it away in a moment of madness,
just get booked in again and youâll smash it, if they think you are doing to be bad or a danger your instructors and examiner would make a point to tell you
Hopefully with winds of luck are with you next time, you can do it just drive like the instructors tell you and with a bit of good luck will be grand.
I mean, large stickers on the back of the truck saying âhitting this is going to hurt you a lot more than it hurts me so stay back you wallysâ could well help remind people of this, and C+E training just happening to have nice FH750âs or 730 v8s that are faster off the mark so less likely to slow somebody down pulling away, power is safety you seeâŚwell maybe haha
