Just up from the traffic lights by the looks of it cc. Cracking pic, as usual.
Cheers Dave.

The years sure do pass quickly! How long have there been traffic lights at the Lea? It was about half a mile from this location that I suffered a sudden failure of the front brake cable (no hydraulics in those days!) coming into a ninety-degree bend on the motorcycle. Straight across the junction and a neat dive into the nearside ditch to avoid running underneath a slow-moving eight wheeler.
Happy days!

They have been there several years Casey.
Cheers Dave.

I’m even older than I thought! I used to travel that road on the way to & from work. Looks as if they’ve created a “pinch point” as I don’t remember the road being that narrow.

Hi Dave and ROF , who had the yard at the top of that pic on the left hand side was it Glyn Morris or was he the one from Gorsley . regards keith

Both, Keith!
Bill Morris, Glyn’s father, had the garage, formerly a Weston’s Biscuits depot, then Glyn took it over. It wasn’t all that convenient for a haulage depot, with winding, hilly roads in all directions so when the opportunity arose Glyn bought Kilcot Garage which was part of the Norman Cash empire. Norman also owned Gorsley Post Office & Stores on the road to the M50 and was more famous for having employed a junior spanner-juggler named Casey.

Hi ROF , Well i didnt know that Westons biscuits would have a depot there ! Did they have a factory at Cinderford as well ? Yes had a feeling it would have been Glyn Morris , i think i can remember he had tippers on coal .
ROF , i never knew Norman Cash , but Gorsley post office is now currantly up for sale , if you are interested !! Whilst Lea still has its PO at the garage , cheers regards Keith

Hi, Keith, Just to clear a point for you-
Norman Cash was an immigrant from the industrial midlands. He had been a vehicle mechanic in a former life and knew the job well. However, he didn’t want to be a “hands-on” garage owner, preferring to leave the physical side of the job to his other employee, an old school friend of mine, and yours truly. I don’t think that the garage was generating much income- my main duties seemed to involve applying successive layers of paint to the outside of the building. And digging a hole in the adjacent field in order to empty the contents of the toilet once a week! And starting the electricity generator (no mains in those days) every morning.
There’s a Streetview pic on Google of the garage, now an MOT centre, if you want to have a look. The roller shuttered door was installed by Glyn so that he could get his lorries into the building.

steelboy Hi , Happy New Year , this was shot between Newbridge on Wye and Beulah . cc

I can remember seeing those Mercs down in Pembroke dock … did not realise they were from North Wales … those Shotton based hauliers certainly turned out a smart fleet in terms of presentation , … just like Hourd , and Shones , and Lindfield from the Wirral …immaculate to say the least …Geraint .

Hey ROF Well at least you found your true vocation !! I have had a look on google earth and what a differance time makes , A Seddon 8 wheel tipper springs to mind with Glyn Morris regards Keith

Only because I was too young to drive lorries at that time! I did have a spell on a grocer’s van then a butcher’s van to get my hand in before graduating to night shifts on an AEC Marshall at nineteen!
