Any of you still use C/B’s ?
And before the who still uses them brigade or the high and mighty oh that’s ……
Me and my work mate do as we do a few runs together and it helps by not tying up our phones
I’ve got an little midland one from Amazon and the Ariel was already fitted by previous owner
I only use it when running with work mate and nothing else

But do you hear anyone else come through on it?
“Looks like we got us a convoy” and “Gotcha ears ohhnnn”
I’ve got one. Very quiet these days with unlimited call deals etc. you get the usual council house FM ■■■■■■■■■ when passing Doncaster, Birmingham, Teeside etc
Yes still have a little thunderpole unit running FM and AM . Used to be everyone running up and down the A75 had one and we all knew each other . Now its not uncommon to run up or down the A75 and have nobody "speak ". Any of the ‘Irish’ lads will usually be on AM (those that have a CB ) very rarely will I be on FM and I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone on FM.
was glad of it yesterday as a driver coming south on the A1 shouted and told me the A69 between Newcastle and Hexam was at a standstill , I was able to reroute off the A1 onto the A695 and get round what appeared to be a very long tailback .

Doesn’t Google maps/Satnavs do all that now?
Still used up here in Scotland on timber haulage.
Any one without is never popular on single track roads with no passing places

My father had one back in the 70’s, he did like gadgets…
Personally I’ve never owned one, always wanted to, but, never got around to buying one!!

iv not had anything reliable . Im thinking theres an opportunity for someone to set up a really good verbal insider traffic jam warning service on 1 channel .The one on my local radio is hollow How itd work is anybodys guess but id buy a cb radio have it tuned in if the local traffic updates were on one set channel with chime ins from folk out on the road "its now moving buddy boy " "fellow is taking cones away thats the end of it "Tomteet here just saw a broken down horsetruck a coppers just pulled up please avoid such and such road "

If your on a regular route Durham to Carlisle is one such regular route for us I wouldn’t have the sat nav on and don’t use Google maps unless I’m trying to find somewhere I haven’t been before , once Ive found it on Google and the sat nav (a proper truck nav ) google maps gets shut down to avoid 2 thinhgs trying to tell me to go diferent routes .
Used to have one in the early days when they were actually illegal in this country…even had one in the car.
At the time when Convoy was out,.and every young trucker thought he was either Kris Kristoffetson, or Burt Reynolds in ‘Smokey and the Bandit’.
In those days you bought them from the Paddys on the ferries.
Then the legal ones came out which were comparatively crap.
In those days I was young and keen, but like everything else in the job these days I’ve lost interest in it.
Last CB I had was around 98, but at that time there were too many d/heads and f/wits on there on their home bases,.so that did it for me,.as I’ve zero tolerance for both types.
So it’s now not so much CB, more CBA.
Many seem to have taken the “ham foundation licence” where they have the use of side band. More interesting talking to places in different countries ,than listening to some of the UK "■■■■ heads"on the 19

Fair comment and it depends on what you want to do.
I last used a CB in a truck many years ago. Mostly only when running with mates on long runs, much as Bluey says.
I now have one fitted to my 4x4 for running with others either on or off road. Useful as a tool, but most of the time it sits there quietly.
I think mobile phones were the kiss of death for truckers with CBs.
Ok if you were running together, but if you spotted a mate coming the other way, by the time you told each other where you were heading and where you had been you lost contact.
I suppose they are longer range these days?
I remember when they first came out over here you would be shouting ‘1-9 for a copy’, and scanning each oncoming truck for his (DB27 was it?) whip aerial, and getting excited when somebody shouted at you,.and using all the American jargon …How sad and embarrassing now eh ?
Those whips used to snap on piece,.I remember thinking I looked cool when I replaced mine with a pair of ‘Twin Truckers’ on my 2800 DAF…oh the days of being young and keen.
I moved away from CB and went into ham radio.
Far more civilised, and the range on an average fm set via a repeater can be anything from 1-20 miles or more.
