Buying and owning a classic show truck

Hi guys!
Firstly… stunning site, i’m always able to seek out an answer to a question that i may have, but i’d like to find the answer to this one. I’m hopeing to buy either an early FH12, or an FL10 in the coming year, restore it and have a good tinker, and then use it to show, go to charity events and use it as a sunday car… i thought of getting a classic car but a unit is much more fun! I’m planning to keep it parked on my driveway, it’s on an estate with good access. What would the rules, laws and legislation require me to do to allow me to do this? Do i need to contact the local council? And also would i still need to carry out the 8 week inspections? Also would i be able to tax and insure it as a classic vehicle under limited milage?
I know there’s a few questions there but any help and or advice would be brilliant as i’d like to be armes before making a move!!
Thanks in advance.

Hi Wilfy,
You would be bette off posting this on the Old time drivers etc forum.Quite a few members who post on there own and restore classic lorries/trucks.
Cheers Dave.

No inspections mate as long as its kept roadworthy, tax it privatly same as average car, you can get classic ins as long as its over 15 yrs old , worry about the rest if it happens.

Thanks for that info Dan. I’ll post this into the Old time drivers etc page, cheers!

And i’ve now posted this in the Old time lorries etc!
Thanks. Wilfy.

As said Wilfy, don’t let that put you off. I run a 1980 Bristol VR, insurance has shot up this year from £186 to £204 :open_mouth: but didn’t shop round, Its now classed as a wagon and is taxed private HGV £165.

No need for any of the o Licence requirements such as inspections, but obviously has to be road worthy.

Dave,

I moved this post into this forum due to the nature of the questions in the OP.

I’ve had a look at the new topic in the Old Time forum, but it’s already sinking quite swiftly because that forum is far ‘busier’ than this one.

If Wilfy wishes, I can move the whole lot and join it all together in Wilfy’s new topic in Old Timer’s Forum if that’s the preference.

Over to you Wilfy, now you’ve got the answers you were looking for… shall I move this lot for you??
