Business isn't too good at this time

Anyone thinking of going to Canada should be aware of what the situation is in late 2008. Forecasts are for it to remain slow in 2009 as well.
A report scooped from another website:
REGINA – The ever-weakening economy has taken out yet another trucking company – this time, one of the bigger carriers in Saskatchewan.
SynLogistics – created just one year ago when Regina-based carriers, the Schneider Group and beverage hauler Prudhomme Trucks, agreed to merge – has shut its doors, according to a CBC report.
Following the merger, SynLogistics had about 200 power units and 275 employees. The company combined dry van services from Prudhomme and mainly flatdeck and warehousing operations from Schneider.
A message left today for company officials by todaystrucking.com was not returned.
Prudhomme, whose president Denis Prudhomme was president of the Saskatchewan Trucking Association last year, had been one of the more active companies involved in recruiting foreign drivers through the provincial nominee program.
Interviewed last year by Today’s Trucking for a feature on foreign drivers, Prudhomme said he routinely brought truckers to Saskatchewan from the Ukraine.
One of those drivers, Alex Nazim, told the CBC that he and other drivers hadn’t gotten paid in three weeks. He said he was told Wednesday the company was shut down, with no explanation as to why.
The next day, Yanke Transport – arguably Canada’s most experienced foreign driver recruiter – offered to take on some of the former SynLogistics truckers.

Not good news, on the other hand the Saskatchewan economy is booming in both the Oil/Minerals & Agricultural sectors so it’s not all bad news, I recently read in one of the freebie papers that there is a huge RDC being built in Regina with loads of jobs being created, the boss of Yanke was very happy about it, there’s aso a big new industrial park going up just west of Saskatoon on hwy 16 so there’s got to be more to that lot closing down than meets the eye.

Bingo! You are dead on , newmercman. I won`t go into details, but these guys were in trouble for a long time.

I was wondering a little, Casey. There were rumblings about them and other van carriers for quite a long time. Strikes me as strange that there were mergers then insolovency.

For the record, there is still a huge amount of freight being moved here. The rates are still reasonable enough. If a company is not making money while still moving freight then they are doing it for too little money.
