I understand that this Leyland PD3 was the very last “Half Cab” bus from Leyland Motors.
It is seen here in “Moomooland” County. Ray Smyth.
It looks less modern than the ones that ran around Bradford in the `70s with the LAD grille . Did they produce both types at the same time ?

Ribble Leyland PD3 1798 is seen here at Hope Street bus station in Wigan, early 1970s.
The 113 route to Preston went via Shevington Moor, Eccleston, and Leyland, the round
trip to Preston and back took 3 hours. Between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and between 4 p.m.
and 6 p.m., Route 113 was very busy, carrying work people to and from the mills at
Eccleston, and several Leyland Motors factories in Leyland, and many schoolchildren
to the many schools along the 20 miles journey.

Aye, Arriva/Volvo/Wrights single deckers…they go like stabbed rats. It’s hilly round this area and those things can accelerate from a standing start, uphill, loaded, and change up as though they are nuclear powered. My info is they’ve got a 7 litre (ish) engine in them. Very impressive performance.

Hi Anorak, Picture 2 is a Southend-On-Sea Corporation Leyland with Massey bodywork. Regards, Ray.

Its a Berliet PLB 6 with a special coachwork, as you British used to do. Hundreds of them were sold to the Gendarmerie (military police); they had 6 sets of flapping doors and a rather sinister look. Mid 1950s. This one, after its engine was transplanted on another Berliet bus I drove (1982), ended as a hunter’s shed in a local wood, and was finally scrapped in 2013. This is a civilian PLB with a standard body built by Berliet.oiltreader:
