The Wigan Rugby League team arriving at Wigan Town Hall in Rodney Street in the
town centre, having won the Rugby League Cup Final at Wembley in 1958. At the
rear of the picture are two Wigan Corporation Leyland PD2 buses leaving Library
Street on route to their destinations. Picture from Wigan World Forum.

Lots of pre 1959 buses of all shapes and sizes as well as trucks and cars on this video. Please click image to view.
Its a surprise looking back now how many buses were used in 1959 before mass adoption of cars
The old Leyland mobile library was adapted by the Council from an ex Northern service bus

This AEC Regent from 1957 is one of many ex Liverpool Corporation buses owned by
The Merseyside Transport Trust. A267 was one of hundreds of AEC buses in the fleet
of the Corporation. Its bodywork is by MCW from Birmingham. It is seen here during
summer this year. Picture from Bootle History Forum.

Surely not a genuine picture, is it?

Around a month ago, Stagecoach buses ceased passenger travel here in Wigan.
The present buses are from a company called BEE NETWORK. Some of the BEE
buses are new, and some are 10 or 12 year old, in various paint colours from
their original fleet. I have spotted a few Hampshire and Scottish number plates.

This picture is a new double decker with a Scottish number plate which makes
me think it could be supplied by Alexander Bodywork at Falkirk. Its number
plate is SK73 CSO. It is seen leaving the Bus Station in Wigan town centre.

The coach in the picture is an MAN SR280. It was sold to Mike Presley by Derek Edwards of MAN VW Truck & Bus. I did the PDI on it prior to delivery. Derek went on to set up SETRA, which is probably where he sold them to Mike of Angela Coaches.

My Father drove for Angela Coaches Lowford Southampton in the 70’s, not sure if that’s him in the picture but these MAN Setra’s changed the game as very reliable, quiet, on board WC & second drivers bunk.

They used to do a 24hr bullet to Lloret De Mar, Costa Brava, Spain via the P&O Dragon etc out of Southampton to Le Harve & I got a trip in the jockey seat.

I was confused why my Father bought 200 B&H on the way out as he smoked rollies, on getting to the Spanish border realised why. Oiled the wheels as time was tight.

I went the HGV route as didn’t like people talking behind my back although easy to get them all to nod together…

Thanks Dennis, I must have took the wrong piece of notepaper from my pocket. Cheers, Ray.

Great photo of this 1934 AEC, Regent I think, With the Autovac fuel system which was very popular well into the40/50s, This was a trouble free bit of gear not like the stuff we have today.

Thanks to Buzzer for showing this handsome AEC coach of Standerwick of Blackpool. Standerwick became part of Ribble Motor Services in the early 1930s.
I had a PSV licence from 1966, and drove for Ribble from early 1968 until early 1970. Back then, Standerwick double deck coaches picked up passengers
at Wigan town centre at 12 noon and 12 midnight to take them to Birmingham and London.
