I’ve googled it and looked at the highway code but can’t find a definitive answer to the exact question.
Q. Christmas day (today) bus lane operative Mon - Fri 07:30 - 09:30.
On an ordinary Bank holiday ie Good Friday/Easter Monday you can’t use bus lanes at these times. Today however there are NO BUSES running…can you use bus lanes during these times when there are no buses anyway?
Bus lanes are classed as bus lanes at the times and days displayed on the sign regardless of bank holidays or whether buses are running, use them at your own risk even on Christmas day, the same rule applies to parking restrictions unless there’s a sign saying different.

He’s the only other person I can think of that would be worrying about bus lanes on Christmas Day.
I understand the parking bit Tachograph and thanks for confirming for those who aren’t aware.

Just wondered if there might be a difference.
Fair play to Hull for turning the cameras off for Christmas day, but it should be national law that on days that buses don’t run cars can use bus lanes.
Cars should also be allowed to use bus lanes on all bank holidays when most buses aren’t running.

Nah…that would require massively too many many meetings and common sense from the local authorities highways dept to even consider the possibility of allowing such an act. Plus imagine the revenue lost by turning off most of those bus lane cameras. From what I was told prior to my test - if it doesn’t say its out of operation then assume it’s always in operation 24/7 365 days a year.
what has allways annoyed me is that we pay through the nose for road tax so we can keep our vehicles on the road,yet TFL and other councils can take one lane turn it into a bus lane and threaten us with fines if we venture onto them during operational times,at the same time I have used bus lanes when they are not operational and you allways get some muppet say YOUR NOT ALLOWED IN THE BUS LANE,my reply is do you know the times of operation,when some say 24 hrs I say check again you idiot cos I make sure of the times before I use them
