LETS NOT FORGET OUR OLD MATE FRANK TOPHAM. sure enough john buckly ran to rabat but then franky took over and if i remember was on that run for some time, he had a loverly F16 GLOBETROTTER, which he kept immaculate inside and out,as far as im concerned frank was the most expierienced driver of all the bulldog boys.HAPPY RETIREMENT FRANK,and i know you miss the road very much mate. have heard that his two sons ian/dereck are driving for MORTIMERS out of melksham, pitty they dont get off their asses and post some stories on here as i know they could tell a few good ones. PAVAROTTI LIVES ON.bev,PAPABULLDOG. :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

You mean this one then.

We always made for Bonneville services coming home, Franco used to fill me up with strong coffee all the way back to Le Havre to keep we awake.

That was usually because you had shipped out Monday for Rome, cleared customs, tipped then left Campogalliano or similar about 9.30 on the Friday night with groupage - those were the days.

 hi there jed, loverly pic of franks truck,(int she big dont she shine)i hope frank see it up on here it will bring back a good few memeries for him, that will keep him cheerfull, pity more of the squadron dont keep in touch seems we are the only ones posting things on here but i no that franks boy ian looks on here every so offten.iv got a nice pic of my 142 v8 to put on here soon as i can work out how to do it, was took down insalerno at the tomatoe factory, just after tipping met up with kenny, asked me if i had a cup for some tea, but ididnt so he lent me his best cup(that was a mistake) he made me a loverly cupper and i just got down to the last mouth full when the agent wanted us both in to load, so like you do you get to the slops at the bottom of the cup,and i decided id had enough so went to sling the slops out over the road, well the slops and the cup went flying across the motorway narrowly missing the passing traffic and i was left holding the handle to kennys best cup, he was not amussed, but we still have a laugh about it.nice one jed keep them coming.bev(the asphelt jocky) :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Here you are Jed hope this satisfies your appetite (never missed a beat!

Hi, anyone know where George Savage is these days, drove for Buckfast (pre Bulldog)in the early times ? Scotch lad lived in Midhurst where John Buckley came from, went on for Body Shop when he finished on Buckfast.
If anyone speaks to Frank Topham please give him my best wishes,is he still in Luggershall ?
Regards MaggieD

:sunglasses: hi maggie d, whats your real name, then i can give frank your regards,im in contact with him most weeks, cheers, papabulldog(BEV) :unamused:

Hi Maggie, how are getting on. Bev rang me and mentioned you. I have had to retire early due to respitory failure, sleep apnia and diabetes. I am on oxygen overnight, and have oxygen available in my living room.
I get around OK but I have to keep away from people with colds as I get chest infections very easy.
Its good to hear from other drivers (thank god for the internet) otherwise you would never hear from anybody.
I finished work when I came out of hospital 20 th december. John Ward looked
after me very well after all the years I put in.
Now I have to get used to being home, Still its nice to be home with the Mrs and when the weather picks up I wil be getting some work done around the house.
Anyway send me a e-mail when you have the time.
Best Regards
Frank

Hi MaggieD, I remember a George Savage from Midhurst, and IIRC he’s a Scot who’s rather partial to playing golf.

If it’s the same George as I remember, his golf clubs were tidily secured out of sight in the cab,
and he always seemed to get weekended near a golf course. :open_mouth:

Another name (IIRC) from Bulldog is Barry Hartley…maybe…

Barry and George were on Barco, Camberley when I was with them.
To the best of my memory, that would be 1985ish to 1987ish

Maggie
Barry Hartley lives in Spain now and comes over here for 3-6 months a year to earn extra money. He cannot get a job in Spain with enough money to sustain the life he lives in Spain.
I have a friend who lives in Murcia and they are struggling to survive with the way things are going on at the moment.
I met Peter Hamilton the other week at Jack Hills (cafe} Towcester, he is living near Abingdon and doing some casual work around Oxford. A lot of the drivers we knew are working in and around the Southampton Docks. Peter Clue is working in the docks for Pentalver driving one of they machines that lift containers on and of for storage. Thats all for the present catch you later

Frank

Hi Frank,

That’ll be the Barry Hartley who I know, he always did like ‘lifestyle.’ :grimacing:

I’ve just noticed your location is Ludgershall and so I’d like to ask whether you knew Trevor Ashworth and his wife, Sue…?

Frank Topham

Hi MaggieD, Thanks for confirming that.

The other thing that I remember about George Savage was that he was always clean and tidy even after he’d stripped a tilt.
(I never learned how he managed that. )

There were two Georges on Barco, the other one was George Dingwall, also a Scot.
