we have 3 trailers on the fleet which are powered by donkey engines mine & 2 others but to be quite honest i’ve never taken much interest in the 5 bigger trailers as the units need PTO packs to run them so am not really sure what is required to run them , i’m not familliar with the term air-vac , mind you we now have an inside toilet & an alectrik lite !

The pic of the Volvo was taken just before the Lydiate Ash junction of the M5.

And the Super reiver - Andrew was driving it on the Bournemouth to Bath run this year.

The Buffalo was along for the ride:

Here’s the rest -

Thanks for that, I’ll ask dad about the Constructopus tomorrow.

I see you have a pic of WLR Gwilts ERF from Baschurch, I assume that was taken at the Bulkrite workshop in Dorrington?
I used to drive their artic for while many moons ago.
I started truck driving at Launchburys at Harmer Hill doing bulk tipper/blower work.

Sadly I dont have any pics from those days, the mad ex tore them all up thinking this would hurt me…She was right! :unamused:

This is the Constructopus

The Constructopus by fryske, on Flickr

This was the story as told to me by Andrew
The Constructopus was one of the last ( if not the last ) TL11 Octopus off the production line in about 1981/2. We bought two.
The first went on the road in 1982 as a ‘Y’ reg (UUJ 840Y) and was run till 1988, when the body was removed and fitted to a Mercedes 8 wheeler F830 BUJ.
The Constructopus was fitted with a new body straight away, but was not registered until 1986 and went on the road as D567 PUX. It was straight away an old lorry, as the Constructor was out then.
We ran it for a few years with the ergomatic cab, but then i had the hairbrained idea to update it with a cab off a Leyland Cruiser tractor unit - BIG mistake. It never was much good after that and so after numerous breakdowns, i had enough one day, and scrapped it.
The body was fitted to a Constructor 8 and i sold the chassis to Dave Morris from Pembridge, who was going to put it back on the road as a tipper. This never happened, and i bought it back off him a few years ago.
We now have a reasonable ergomatic cab for it and will rebuild it soon

Hello fryske,

Really interesting this ‘Constructopus’. Is that the ‘true’ poistion (height) of the T45 cab as it was when fitted to the 500 series chassis, or is sat up on some blocks or something? Looks mighty high?

In some ways this is not a million miles away from from the narrow cabbed eight wheel constructor that Leyland offered later on. I always nagged my Dad about having one of them. He ran four Constructor six tippers all 24:21TL11’s, one with Fuller Range-Change the rest were Spicer Splitters, all had the 2 spring rear boggie, they did us very well. Prior to that we had a new Bison on T plate with the 4 spring suspension. Earlier still it was 3 AEC Marshals, what I woundn’t give to have kept one of them!

Looking forward to seeing the restored Octopus. Having seen the two Reivers at the Salop Steam Rally I’m sure the end result will be done to a very high standard.

All the best, Andrew Stone.
