Buggered up.

Hi all,

New here but not new to driving. Last stint I did was 13 years ago class 2 but over the last week I’ve been going through my class 1.

Today was my test date and on the very first task decoupling/coupling I did everything correct well as far as I was concerned and the examiner said are you sure, and I said yes and again he said are you sure……… mind going yes.

He failed me, why because me like a ■■■■ forgot to test my lights and ask him to check break lights.

Owe well expensive mistake and yes I’m a ■■■■.

I was panicking mind you.

The fact he asked twice would be enough to make me run through everything again to make sure I’ve not missed anything.

You probably won’t make the same mistake again though. Better luck next time! I’ve got my Class 2 test next week so don’t have to worry about coupling/uncoupling.

If an examiner ever asks are you sure then they are telling you that you have missed something without actually telling you that you are about to fail

that’s a bugger!
At least your retest will be new rules, and you can get the coupling out of the way separately before the test.

Depends what the retest date is because instructors need to be authorised to do that and that takes time

Thanks all.

New date has been arranged but a different test location which I’m not happy about so asked if a new date can be found.

Plus I’ll never EVER forget my lights again.

I think you are wise to do this.

Whilst as a professional you should be able to drive anywhere, psychologically I don’t think changing test centres at the last moment is an ideal situation, unless you have some remedial training booked beforehand.

Yeh that’s my take on things plus the trainers have said the examiners in Newport are crap and one chap I spoke to said one examiner was aggressive because someone had hit his barrier down so took it out on the learner, yes he failed.

Not had reply back yet with the change of test centre.

That sounds much more like a poor instructor who diverts their shortcomings by deflecting the blame.

Exactly this.

I am a training provider in the South Wales area, we have our own private DVSA test centre however occasionally use Newport and never had an issue. In fact, the examiners stationed there are often deployed to us.

Feel free to message me if you need any help or advice.

Hi bud,

I can only post a comment on what I’ve been told or heard about Newport hence why I’m sticking to Llantrisant.

Regards.

Also only through this forum I found out about the show me, tell me stuff that the examiners ask you.

Did ask my trainer about it day before my test and I got the feeling he thought I knew about them, no.

I’ve been out of driving HGVs for 13 years and only going for a class 1 to better my licence and job prospects.

Ummmmmm retest Thursday might have to read up me thinks.

As well as the sheet given to me by my instructor, I also watched the following video a couple of times just to confirm what I thought I already knew…

Hi, I just wanted to thank you for posting about this. I have been class 2 driving since 2005 and did my test on Thursday. If I hadn’t seen your post on Weds night I would have made the same mistake. My instructor did mention it to me once but this post cemented it into my mind on the day of the test. I got the pass with 1 minor in the end. Good luck for the future.

Yes great glad it helped and like you I past mine last Thursday with 3 minors.

Regards.
