Budapest

Hi all

I have been asked to go budapest with a trailer, the problem is the trailer is 15ft does anyone out there know a route I can use to avoid low bridges as I’m told they are lower out there. I’m in Sussex so any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

Phill

Know anyone with a Chinook helicopter ? :grimacing:
As apart from the uk and france (allegedly) most if not all EU member states have a max height of 4.0mtrs including Hungary , could always dismantle it first

Best find yourself another trailer as the only realistic way you’ll take a 15’ high one over to Budapest is going as Convoi Exceptionnel with all the extra costs that will occur. As has already been said 4m is the standard height on this side of the Channel

It’s not gonna happen pal. You’ll be ok in France, but go any further and you run the risk of hefty fines, and not to mention actual bridge strikes. If it absolutely has to happen, as has been mentioned, it’s convo I exceptionelle, pilot required, along with permits. All very expensive.

Firstly welcome to Trucknet.

It seems to be a regualar question on here about people wanting to take high trailers into Europe and basically as has already been said really normally anything over 4m is a bit of a problem especially in Northern Europe.

Why do they want you to take this trailer?

As per all of the answers above, a 15’ trailer will have to be routed Convoi Exceptionnel, will have to be escorted, will probably only be able to move for six hours per day, at night, and will take 2-3 weeks to get there, this really isn’t a one-man undertaking.

On the plus side, once you get there Budapest is very nice. :stuck_out_tongue:

I was partaking of the falling down water there in the city centre on Saturday night when a fella sidled up to me and said in an East European accent “you come to my ■■■■■ palace? Full intrusion” i politely declined partially because I’m not quite sure what “full intrusion” is, but mainly because I worried that the intrusion would end up being carried out on me!

Btw, for all the legion of Stobbie fans that I know are out there, they had 67, that’s right, 67 trucks at the Grand Prix at the weekend.

So besides Mercedes, their motorhome and Pirelli who else do they do the transport for now?

Thanks for the welcome

I’ve been asked to transport a big wheel for a filming job.

I’m not exactly sure what you mean by a “big wheel”. A funfair big wheel? Can it not be broken down and re-assembled when it’s there?

They have Williams too. Plain White 14 plate new Actros, look the part actually, well apart from the one who fell asleep driving from Hockenheim to Hungary!

There were also at least 25 of their curtainsiders parked up in the field just before the entrance too.

Knew I had a pic somewhere.

Can you get it any lower. Just down to 4.5m will make it sooo much easier. It will still need con ex permits lighting and ■■■■■■ but will greatly simplify the required route.
A lot of countries are happy to.let you run in daytime with the notable exception of der farterland.
Permits aint necessarily cheap or quick to obtain either.
Best of luck, it will not be simple but is perfectly doable.
