I have been to Derby today, armed with my camera and anorak. I went to Meadow Lane off London Road Alvaston and found,

ZILCH.
The yard is there but there is absolutely no clue it could ever have been a BRS Depot.

What? Not even a Spardo Was Here plaque :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
Can’t get used to this modern world - no respect. :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Wasn’t Derby BRS on Ashbourne Road or was Meadow Lane the previous depot?

I took my mate with me, his Grandfather drove for BRS and later Pickfords. He lived in Wilmorton and the depot was definately Meadow Lane when he worked there.

Was it BRS where Kays of Mackworth ended up too?

it was near the co op iirc

Old man used to tramp out of Lister street depot in Glasgow late 60s - early 70s. Original building flattened, think there’s a Bookers c&c and a John Lewis warehouse there now. Also worked at Townsend street and then Hawthorn street all in Glasgow. Visited many depots with him in Scotland, in particular the Dumfries depot where he ran tankers on the Carnation contract amongst other things.

Was that big Pickford’s depot on the left of London Rd. heading into Glasgow which I often used to pass in pre-motorway days also a BRS depot?

hiya,
spardo london rd glasgow was only ever pickfords used to bunker there regular BRS motors used to go in for fuel a lot handier than lister st but don’t remember it ever being a BRS depot, your memories, OK it’s me i can’t write proper, hope the post makes sense now, .thanks harry long retired…

Well I know memory plays tricks these days but I’m sure there was a lot of really heavy Pickford’s stuff in there - girder trailers etc.

Agree Spardo. I remember a Pickfords depot on London Rd. It was on the right just before the traffic lights at Mount Vernon, on the way out of Glasgow. Remember seeing alot of heavy haulage gear in the yard, old Scammells etc.

hiya,
spardo iv’e edited orignal post about pickfords london rd glasgow should be OK now thanks harry long retired

not sure mate, i’ve just got it in my head the co op was there, i was working for nccs at the time and used to overnight/fuel up in brs/nccs depots

Im not sure what time period we are looking at but the tiger story says that BRS was definately Meadow Lane and the co-op dairy was in Woods Lane across town.

I will keep hunting and disturbing old people :stuck_out_tongue:

early to late 80’s comind up from A52 uo to the lights, turn left onto meadow lane and it was on the left, i’m sure it was summat to do with the co op cos i was delivering sodastream at the time

This is all I have found up to now

Im interested, and would love to find a shed full of Bristols :stuck_out_tongue:
