Hi Steve, last time I saw ‘JOCK’ must have been 25+ years ago, it was probably a Friday night because I was on Luker’s & that was usually when we shipped back over, it was in Le Havre & I was parked next to him queuing for the boat. Any idea what he was likely to have been doing/carrying? Regards Chris
Sorry one and all but I need some help if possible.
I’m looking to add a couple of models to my collection.would like to have a couple of box vans and was wondering if the general haulage fleet ever used red box vans? All I have ever seen are green parcel service vans and although I’m sure a recently saw a picture of a red box van with British Road Service markings,I’m not sure if this was correct or someone just making one up.
I’m sure one Mr TIDDERSON will be able to oblige me with the correct answer from his memory box of magic.
thanks in anticipation regards Chris.
This Terrier if you look has a new front panel , it was in a rta after hitting a lady on a push bike ,yes she died and the was a perfect in print of her in the front ,why they didn’t scrap I do not know ,because this is pictured round the side of the workshops not long later as it was taken off contract and scrapped .
Its a long story with the rta , but I can tell you when the ministry man under neigh the wagon said shake the steering up and down the steering colomn came out of the knuckle under the gaitor (if any one recalls this model there was a bolt that held the column in ) it was left out !!! not me but I do know who it was !!! , this was not the cause of the accident but it was never bought up again .
This trailer was mine for 2 years on the Atlet contract , High Wycombe built it and its pictured on there wash , whilst it was being built and before painting , it was a crap trailer and all those pop rivets were replace each service .
this photo was of Oxfords wrecker before when it was on general haulage ,this is the first time I had seen it like this as it was a wrecker from 83 onwards .

Hi Chris. It all depends what age vans you want to make. After 1947 all vans both parcels and general haulage were all green with red wheels black mudguards and white across the back of the platform with the fleet no. and BRS initials in black.
When they became BRS Ltd. vans changed to the all red livery
Later when the regions set up under their own liveries all vans changed to the new company colours
If you would like any details for Reg. no.s or fleet no.s send me a PM
Peter
Thanks peter,
thought that if anyone would know it would be you.will contact you when ready for fleet details.
regards Chris.
bump: for the new chap looking for stuff about Plymouth depot
This was a contract vehicle for Oxford depot ,it was pure waste ,this DAF was new and pulled very rarely the hospitality trailer, it was parked up more than it was used and was used more for service than any thing ,Brs were not worried as it was paid for by Unipart , I think I was driving this on this day , because I recall going up to 733 building in a service van ,to find some one had pinched the standard DAF mirrors ,so I had to go and get a set of those old mickey mouse ones from the stores , also I always pulled the curtains round the windows and no other fitter did .
they saw sense in the end and it was put on another contract and was used more wisely .
These 7.5 ton box vans were used on the Edmunds walker contract whilst they were waiting for some brand new Leyland Freighter vans were on order ,to the left is one of the freighters ,reg numbers started from E605LTC.
These were used on car delivery parts at night and we had them in on the days for Mot and service inspections .
Photo taken at the top end of the yard behind Halls brewery and next to Kipling cakes .
another contract were these people , this was still going when I started at Oxford ,you can just see our Lt =Volkeswagon by the workshops .
Any pics on here from the cambridge brs depot on the cattle market??
I spent my best years driving for BRS, I began at a minor depot in Yaxley, Peterborough, delivering Perkins P3 engines for Ferguson tractors, most of the drops were in isolated areas, such as blacksmiths shops, small garages, up mountains and narrow roads. For this task I had a 4 wheeled Vulcan powered by a Perkins P6. If we were sent to load bricks the orders were…‘Leave room at the rear for 2 engines’
That depot was dispensed with and we moved to a larger one at Fengate Peterborough, the fleet there consisted of new and old vehicles, when I say old that’s what I mean…old. there were some horrible old work horses there.
When BRS was virtually dispensed with I went to work with J&E Kenny Ltd, that outfit has been mentioned in another thread which at this time I can’t find. I have some tales to tell about that firm!
By the way…Hello all!
