I think 34A5503 was KXW 826 Mammouth Major box with London Parcels
The other is NLR 508 1A318 similar box based in Hampstead
Good morning TIDDERSON and Chris .
The picture I have seen on ebay with M20 photos (Ash Pike ) , I do not think it is Oxford depot and for some reason I am thinking Swindon , in the corner is two 88s and Oxford only had one (Rocket Ron Wilmott drove it before my days on Brs ) , and I cannot picture the warehouses , but saying that before I started the yard was reduced quite a lot ,so it could be , the only person on here would be bjf Barry Freeman who was in the workshops before me .
Any how Chris a day walking around Rush green motors , great ,brilliant and ace . , not to keen on there dogs but the rust is amazing .
Hi Tidderson, Just wondered in your Merrin End photoās, why BRS were grey and when did they appear, and were they there long?..Thanks
And where have you been all this time, Paul? I sincerely hope you had permission for such a long absence?
Anyway, I can help fill in the missing bit of your education- grey was the corporate livery for BRS tippers. Not that many depots had tippers, Mitcheldean having obviously got theirs through the acquisition of the Read and Smith fleets. I recall Stowmarket depot had tippers, too, mainly the āfold-in sidesā variety of trailer used for the seasonal hauling of sugar beet from farms to their local British Sugar factory.
Hi ROF, TIPPERSā¦Of course. Thanks for that. I have been popping in from time to time and keeping a watchfull eye on whats hot and whats not. Been having a mooch about round the area and seeing whats left of our local industrial heritageā¦The signs are not good. I must say that itās been nice taking a back seat, makes a change for me to be a passenger. Hope you & yours are well?..Thanks again for the answer, I will sleep better tonightā¦BFN.

We had some tippers at Oxford and seem to remember they were grey Saurer diesel Morris as per our Prestcold units ,they worked from the Witney area pits to the airfields around ,Upper Heyford ,Brize ,Fairford etc⦠it used to be said that the tippers were the highest revenue earners in the depot at that time,
Also at that time Ameys had charge of a large number of RAF Austin K 6 s on loan from RAF solely to cover the Upper Heyford contract .
Ex Swindon Commer two stroke .

I plan on having a mooch around the area myself some time this year during one of my visits to the sprogās. No doubt Iāll be moaning about things that have changed when I thought they should have been left alone! Planning on calling to see lurpak at Parkend at some stage so Iāll pm you nearer the time.
Meanwhile, if you havenāt found it yet, there are some interesting bits on āForest of Dean Hauliersā Fatface page.
Hi ROF, Might be mildly amusing listening to a Macclesfield accent at some stage. FoD Hauliers was set up by a mate of mine and I. We been running that from the start (only back last year) cause there was nothing else local at the time. Sometimes it throws up some interesting thingsā¦Great to hear from you again, donāt leave it so long next timeā¦BFN.
Oi! It wasnāt me that went missing from this site, matey!
And if you want to hear a Macc accent youāll have to ask someone else. When folks up here ask where my accentās from I tell them I donāt have an accent- Cheshire people have accents, not those from Gloucestershire!
you canāt hide that accent on the phone casey , i thought you were one of the worzells . you can take a man out of the forest , but you canāt take the forest out of the man . cheers , dave . ps , iām not very good on accents as iāve led a sheltered life
This is like fly fishing, sometimes you have to wait for a biteā¦

Hey ROF , during your time at Mitcheldean, did they run AEC Mercurys ex Smith , or James ? I am sure i can remember seeing a few at the Merrin , regards Keith .
Iāll have to stop & think for a moment about that one, Keith, as itās quite a long time ago! To the best of my memory, there was just the one Mercury artic from the James Smith fleet when I arrived at Merrin End, which stayed in itās green livery, albeit with the sign writing painted over and the BRS fleet number applied. As far as I can remember, the only other ex-JS lorry still at the depot was the venerable 8-wheeler Atki, HJS30, also retaining itās green colours. The rest of the English Bicknor fleet had been disposed of by then (1966/67) with the exception of a lone ERF artic which pulled a tipping trailer and had had a quick coat of āBRS Tipper Greyā applied. One odd Smith tipping trailer was retained which I had the use of for about six months, a single axle with a Ford 8 unit as a donkey engine.
I stand to be corrected on the above but thatās the extent of my recall at my advanced age!
