Hi harry,
when i went with my uncle most of his work was on textiles from local mills heading for Midlands garment manufacturers, also did some heavy fertilizer bags to Hull for docks, also return with steel from Sheffield for local wire makers.I think they took what they could as being so close to Bradford made it difficult.
Leej,
the depot was based at Keighley road, just through Bingley on right hand side of road.If you check Google maps you’ll find it showing as Castlefields Ind units.you can see the telegraph poles still there from the original photo(the signal box is long gone).
can I just say I remember with so much fondness the various drivers we met whilst travelling, what a great feeling of support and friendship, plenty of good homoured banter as well, this feeling seem so lost these days,I drove myself for a number of years, but had to stop to take care of my wife as she became disabled.I do miss the open road and freedom you felt. It’s great to read so many great stories and think of those told to me by uncle Jack and all those we met.
found it! it’s next door to the JET service station on the right. The shed is still there although now used as a MOT station
Any one got a picture of the Much hole depot Preston please ?,great night trips in to that depot with night trunker Ivor Parry, load up at 733 Unipart at Cowley for the Edmund Walker contract with his much loved Leyland Roadtrain 1730 300 rollsroyce D88 HFB fleet number Tac233, travel up To Much hoole , unload trolleys on to a 16t truck rental for deliveries round Lanc (day driver), unload the remainder on to Edinburgh driver Brian mc duff bound for Scotland , then Ivor would drive over by the workshop where I would wash his truck down whilst he had 45 in the portacabin .return trip would be steady 50 but upward trip ythe roadtrain was always at 60/70 .

sandbach brs had a lot of tippers mostly ERFs on salt work, and the Stoke BRS depot which i think was in Tunstall , helped out as well . thank you Trevor

It was called Albion Garage on Keighley Road. When I took those photo’s in April 1960 I walked down from the Leeds and Liverpool Canal opposite Damart’s mill, through a tunnel under the railway lines then right down the road for a few hundred yards. Never saw more than 2 or 3 lorries at any one time.
!n 1961 they had a fleet of 28 lorries including 8 Albion 8wh., 2 Mammouth Majors, 5 Octopuses, 1 Bristol
and 5 Super Comets.

There were depots in Stoke and Tunstall. Stoke was in Whieldon Road, fleet code 2E later KJ, and Tunstall was in the High Street code 2E later KK. Mill Street Crewe and Stafford Common Goods Station (KL) were all under Stoke District

If you go to here Google Maps
and zoom in a touch, this to me looks like the old shed in the photo from 1960

You are quite right. These were the codes from nationalisation until 1956 when BRS was reorganised then it changed to 2E.

I’ll dig some more out to put up, they’re from some old commercial motors I have from the 50’s onwards, there’s something on BRS nearly every week , as you would expect
From cm February 1955. And I used to knock about with a bloke when I was a kid when he worked for glyn John in stoke, he came there from BRS Tunstall, Sid tideswell, put one of there seddons or guys up a telegraph pole
Hope these are of interest
