In later years the “E” in the fleet number denoted Engineering department and these two look like they were used for breakdown/recovery.
Wasn’t FF the Dunstable code in the 60s?
JAKEY:
Think this was once at Rush green .
Do any of you ex Brs Oxford drivers the well know Wrecker driver "TEX " he loved his Diamond T that much to when they sold it and replaced it with a Guy big j he refused to go out on a Wrecker again and stuck to a Lt VW on breakdowns only .

Quite right. 47E covered Kingsway, Luton; Albert Road. Luton; Leighton Buzzard; Aylesbury and Dunstable. In the 50’s it changed to Luton District including Stevenage and was 4E. Late 50’s it moved to Leicester District and became 3E. Dunstable Branch including Dunstable, Luton, Corby, Aylesbury and Melton Mowbray. Stevenage moved to Peterborough District. In the 60’s rearrangement it went into Midlands BRS and Dunstable became FF as you said. Towards the end of BRS days it joined Southern BRS
and became AB. I don’t think any other depot had so many changes! Does anyone know where FJ was?
Peter
This is the one in question. It has a Kesteven reg.no. and is coupled to a Stowmarket semi. Could it be Lincoln depot?

According to a list I’ve seen Lincoln was JG,can’t see a code FJ on the list but it looks like it’s in the East Midlands area as Blaby was FA,Corby was FD,Dunstable FF and Bedford FH.
Could be Lincoln,or maybe Bourn. Ted.

The caption says its a 12 wheeler, more impressive for the young lads who bought these books at the time I suppose !!
Can anyone make out the registration on this motor?

Leyland Octopus.
I’ve seen that shot in one of Bob Tucks books IIRC and I think the drivers “nickname” was Blossom as he’d worked with horses years before, not sure but I think his depot was Bradford or maybe Scunny and when there was some big lumps to ship out of DEC at Workington they got him up with his Octopus because it had bigger wheels and tyres than standard and could take the weight better ! What size of tyre would it have been then? Don’t look like 40x8’s maybe they were the “new” 1000x20 at the time ? Cheers Dennis.
Messsage for Leej,
sorry can’t help with picture of Low moor depot but have got a couple of Bingley depot, also came across picture of Halifax Transport house being demolished in the early 1980’s.I remember delivering to the depot on legrams lane when i worked for Local dealership. You might try the Library they tend to keep a picture of local areas.

You can tell it’s BRS- half a load and two blokes. I daresay Bewick was paying the second man’s wages!

Hi R o f, Did you ever load those bales, it was mostly hand ball, like sticking your hand hook in a block of wood, unlike pallet loads on Bewick trucks.
Les.
