hiya,
Vic can’t recall this happening at the BRS depot Blackburn where i did a couple of stints in the late 50s to the late 60s no additional payments in those days certainly nothing extra for delivering the London area and don’t think there was anything extra for pulling 40 footers, remember artic and wag and drag drivers was paid top rate rigiid drivers was paid slightly less, and at my time at “Cookies” Tayforth we pulled 45,50 and 55 footers as normal every day work and for nothing extra in the pay packet wonder was they pulling the wool over our eyes eh’, and i never gave it a thought I just got on with the job, got me wondering now Vic do they owe me money, as much chance of getting it now as being stricken by the proverbial lightning,ah well, story of my life.
thanks harry long retired.

,Thats true Harry later times were another thing we were the same at Darlington nowt extra towards the end,if you go in to see the new generation at Delves lane you might get some thing back but i would’nt think so !!!vic come to think of it the l ast time delivered derv to them Bob Winnie was still in the office :astonished:

hiya,
Vic popping up to Consett this afternoon to have a look at a car, but i think i’ll give the Delves Lane visit a miss Geoff’s most likely spent it, laughing up his sleeve at the same time i’ll just hope he enjoyed it, did meet him in Disneyland Florida a while ago in the same queue as me for one of the attractions he had a big smile on his face most likely because it was my money he was spending, ah well.

hiya,
Marvellous job of restoration on this old girl looks just as well close up a credit to the owner, and the Mortons motor looks like it’s fresh off the production line and ready for work.
thanks harry long retired.

Some fantastic shots there, may they rust in peace.

Wonder if someone can help, I’m attempting to make a model of an Isle of Wight BRS Coles Crane, and am wondering what colour it would have been? Ayres Red, Green or even Dark Blue, looking at the picture the wheels seem to be different from the body which leads me to think it could possibly be green. The below photo shows it in action at Newport on the IOW however it looks more like Cowes to me?

What do you think fellas? Any help would be greatly received.

Another old one, again using a wagon and drag on dolly work.

One to keep this thread going!!

[A few from Guildford in the early 50’s and 60’s

Try one more from the n/eastern BRS and a Gypsum contract unit.

There’s been some cracking photos of BRS on here but this is still my favourite…

Albion 8-legger on Beattock, tha could climb out of t’cab and count t’wheelnuts when she were still plodding uppards, light a Park Drive, smoke it and then stub t’dog end out on t’mudguard and get back in t’cab afore she got t’summit tha knows.

Ask Dennis about t’owd days on Beattock…anon

Dennis would have still been playing conkers in the playground when that old girl was pictured Chris  .
Cheers Dave.

I wouldn’t be too sure about that Dave my boy!! I would be interested to know when that shot was taken and if it was on Beattock? The carriageway surface looks new and there’s Armco barrier in place so I would suggest it was maybe mid 60’s? The old girl would,of course,be at the very extreme of her working life probably! maybe even her last homeward bound trip prior to being scrapped! We’ll never know unless, of course, driver Webb “comes clean” and gives us the “Gen” on the photo! Cheers Dennis.

I have to agree with Chris on that pic Dennis. That is a proper lorry from the days of eight wheelers being king of the road,as you say the barrier looks 60’s and the lorry had seen better days.
Cheers Dave.

nothing unusual there dennis , i was dragging a 1951 foden 8 legger round at that time , it was kept on the road right up to mot tests started . when i was an apprentice in 1960 the local quarry ran fodens from 1942 & 1947 and even two 1934 vintage , dave

I can’t find the caption for the photo, but I thought it was a BRS Dundee motor until I saw the reg which is West Lothian C C 1954.I do know that the pic was taken on Beattock and BRS did keep their motors for what seemed like multi-decades,so it could well be mid-60s when it was taken, after all it is an Scotstoun motor, built to last, and why worry about speed,BRS never chased about,so she could be good for another few years eh? She’s a bit before my time,I started on a LAD Reiver of 1959 vintage…over :grimacing:

It took a good number of years to complete the dual carriageway to Glasgow and a lot of sections are quite a distance apart so as to be self clearing when it snows.looks like this shot is taken on one of these sections! But then again could it possibly be the mountain road in the IOM and that is CW at the wheel, prior to parking up and nipping home on a “dodgy”(old habits ,as well as old motors and!!! old drivers,“H” and Norm excepted, die hard!) Cheers Dennis.
