British International/Bob Garnett/Euro PSL

And Freight Transfer , did anyone haul their trailers on port to port round trips , had trailers sent to France un-accompanied , mostly Lisbon drops and reload Friday night out of warehouses in Porto , with collections on wheels in the Braga or Guimaraes area for shoes/textiles/marble/stone/granite/machinery or anything goes ?

Or Gibraltar drops , then drive a whole day for a reload in Valencia/Murcia/Alicante or Barcelona , sometimes shoes , with one trailer full of left shoes and the other full of right footed shoes .
Clearing Customs at Villa Formosa/Alverca TIR park or Porto TER TIR , Alverca was a smelly dump by the mosquito infested sewer river , where the water was jet black , the fumes would make you ill .
Not cleared by Friday , drop the trailer and bob tail unit only for a weekend on Cascais beach or Matosinhos beach in Porto .
I think Bob Garnett is in to air balloons nowadays , not sure what Paul Fogden is doing ?

Hi. I used to do the U.K. side for Euro PSL and then they started to do Fridge Work to North Africa we used to load at BOC Hemel Hempstead which was all M & S stuff, tip that in Lisbon then run M/T to Algiceras catch the ferry to Tangiers then run right down to Marrakesh and load sweet corn for the Isle of Wight. If my brain is still working it was Chris and Heather Yeomans running the office at Euro PSL.
Retired now nursing the old Prostate Cancer for the last 2 years now just been diagnosed with Skin Cancer bloody North African Sun.

All The Best

Yes it was Chris and Heather Yeoman`s in the Euro PSL office in Portsmouth docks , they later ran their own fridge trailer business on European work , and there was Katy Scully and Richard Peacock in the office , i think Katy moved to Australia , Richard was a manager there along with Andre Garcia , who still works for PSL at Maldon , he is Portuguese .

Do you remember Tim that had the Scania it was Pink and Grey lived in Surrey somewhere. I know he packed up and bought a van doing work out of Gatwick. I have not seen or heard from the 2 lads that had the ERFs doing the carpets out of Brintons Kidderminster to Portugal. As I said before I got involved in Heavy Haulage mainly to Eastern Bloc and sold my last truck in September 2008.

The two lads with the ERF`s were Blonde Pete and John Yates from Devizes , i think John passed away many moons ago , i used to his ERF in a yard in Westbury , his nick name was Longpockets John , as was always too tight to buy the coffees .
The carpet factory for Brintons was in Vouzela , about an hour or more from Porto , it was a good job , trailer loaded for on arrival . The rate was about £1650 round trip , ferry paid .
You may remember Grant , he liked the one arm bandit gaming machines , liked Bacardi and Cola , he had a Pegaso , as an owner driver but got stung by his lady accountant for fraud .
The parrot bar in Matosinhos or Leca de Palmeria port , Ricardo the owner had the dodgy phone where you paid on a timer , he made a fortune out of drivers calling home and from the sailors off the ships .
He did a great Franchesina sandwich , it was about a foot high , with cheese, ham , eggs , steak , ham , salad ,topped with hot spicy gravy .

And Ian and Stevie Holland from R&G haulage , red and white Volvo F12`s , always did Portugal , Dave Brooker , always had a Portuguese girl friend with him in the cab , used to fix his own truck on the road side , from fitting a clutch or a gear box .Alex Hargreaves who had a polio arm and a nice blue Scania 142 , apparently had a road rage incident in France and pulled from his cab by an angry French man , an English driver found out from the Gendarmes where he lived and paid him a visit .
Loading paper reels from Soporcell in Figueria de Foz on the coast . All night loading in the warehouses in Porto , with no sleep .

Hi all, doe’s anyone know what happened to blonde Pete i know he spent a lot of time in a south american country can’t remember which one had a girl from over there that he came back with,he always said he was going to sell up over here move over there and he would be a millionaire. He just seem to suddenly disappear.Used to ship out most Monday night’s with him smashing bloke when you got to know him. :sunglasses:

When blonde Pete was subbing for Euro PSL , every time i saw him , he had been on an exotic holiday or was booking another one , he told me he went to Cuba , so he was a well traveled man . As you said , a smashing bloke to talk to .
Carl who had bad acne used to drive for Freight Transfer , and PSL , he was once parked up or drove in to a road block , then it all kicked off big time , a shoot out between the Basque police and ETA , he never shipped out again , by chance , i was tipping in North Wales , and he was in a factory next door , this was about two years ago .

Ken Hughes , a driver from BI , ex Army , tall with a mustache , an absolute gent , and scouser John Povey , he was a real character , ran bent , one hits from Dieppe to Lisbon with no stopping , except for the loo and coffee .
The Animal Stuart Smith , RIP , killed on his way to Morocco , a big lad with a heart of gold , he was sent to what BI called the gypsies yard , empty trailer park in Porto , to help me rebuild those dam super jumbo step frame tilt trailers .Not good in 40 degree heat , or in the winter , with a ton of water on the roof or ice .

BI drivers could use the showers in the fire station next to the BI office in Leca , there was a father and son drivers , the old man was called Popeye , they slept outside the office , and woke up to their trousers with the pockets cut out , and all their running money stolen , they got more running money , but we all knew they had spent it all in the ladies bars in Matosinhos .

Yes that was it Cuba. The last time i spoke with him which would be about 20 or more years back he was getting a lot of hassle from the ministery man as they were then and was talking about packing up and going to Cuba for good.

A bunch of us were in Victors one evening.....Having dinner. Simon had the hotel at the time, Miguel and his girl-friend were waiting table. Anyway, Animal asked for the fish, but was told, none left. So he ordered summat else, steak?. Waitress went off to attend other tables. When she returned he said: "Cancel the steak" "Why?" "Ive had fish already", and pointed to fish tank without fish, and rubbed his belly.
Horror! She ran off to get help, pointing to vacant tank. Lots of commotion.
Then Animal retrieves soup dish with some water in, from under table, and shows the fish flapping about in it.

I believe he too is deceased. Took managership of a pub in Pompey for a while. (Always wore clogs without socks)

Did animal at one time have / drive a blue ERF ?

Think has was pulling for either garnetts or interoute ?
Not sure if it’s the same chap ?

Victors , that is a blast from the past , Simon with the beard , he never smiled or laughed , the drivers menu was very good , and so was the price . Their potato and meat soup , was great in the Winter to warm you up .
There was a restaurant on the very end by the fuel station ,a family from Galicia ran that one , i used the big hotel a lot to eat in , a room in the Winter was very cheap , or for the Summer with air con .
On the ground floor , at the back of the hotel , for a few quid , you could have a hot bath , handy for a 45 minute break .The bath tubs were by the laundry room.

I think the Animal hit the back of a broken down coach , i heard the coach driver or a mechanic was also killed when he was stood at the rear of the coach . The police tried to blame Stuart for the crash , the newspaper report twisted the facts . I am not sure what truck he drove , for BI , it would have been a white Iveco Turbostar , and for Interoute , it would be a subby , so any kind of motor . It was Allan Jerrom the manager for Interoute .
