Well…i can drive to work in my 4 x 4 shogun with a big grin on my face as all the other motorists are stuck.
then i can climb into my nicely heated truck…the boss goes in to turn the night heaters on…then ive got the normal drive to Dewsbury to tip the bananas..then a nice drive down to walkers crisps for a nine hour break whilst they load the trailer...good here innit...so let it snow..i dont care...but i
m still agreeing with neil…
Tut Tut, to quote one caller, The “bike riding bunny hugging eco warrior” on Radio 2 this afternoon would have you swinging from a tree, shame on you driving a 4x4, pull us out if i get stuck
Snow has arrived in the highlands. Took me 4hrs to go from Inverness to Wick (110 miles) tonight!

It’s unlikely there will be enough snow round london to stop a car, it’s just the drivers it stops. And you are just as likely to see a 4x4 stuck as a 2 wheel drive car, because the drivers belief in the ability of thier car to handle tricky conditions overcomes thier lack of talent.
P.S. this is not aimed personally at you Truckboy, just the average motorist.

I was more annoyed by the woman who phoned in trying to justify her 4x4 by saying she had a long driveway and horses. You can get the same amount of horse type gear in an estate car and If our local farmer can manage to drive over fields with an ■■■■■■ Van, I’m sure a decent estate car could mange a bit of a rough driveway, especially as most of the 4x4 on sale have no better off road ability than your average salon car.
Why don’t they just admit that they like the image of a 4x4, the same way as I like big engined sports cars.
Does anyone have photos of that “heavy snow” you apparently had today? I have heard from radio that “winter suprised in UK/Germany” and I’m just curious to know how much snow is required for that.
Funny thing is that winter frequently manages to “suprise” car drivers also here in Finland despite the fact that everyone knows that snow and ice come every year.
Here you go Kyrbo, this tells you a bit and it seems that it amounts to 5 inches, less than 10cm.
You will see from that link that we even need to be shown a picture of a bowl of soup so we know what is good to eat for keeping out the cold.

BBC News:
Blizzard leaves hundreds strandedHundreds of adults and children are stranded away from their homes after heavy snow brought chaos to Cornwall.
Up to 1,000 people were trapped in their vehicles in heavy snow on Bodmin Moor on Friday evening. Many schoolchildren were stuck in their schools for much of the evening but the county council said it was hopeful only a handful would have to stay overnight.
Seven military aircraft have been on standby and heavy lifting vehicles have been brought in to move abandoned cars.
Dave Webster, from RAF St Mawgan said: “We are standing by ready to go if anything else is needed and will continue to assist the civil authorities throughout the evening as required.”
Police said the military had supplied two wreckers from north Devon and a tracked vehicle from Gloucestershire as more snow and freezing conditions were being forecast for Friday night.
About 500 vehicles, including coaches, remain stuck on the A30 between Kennards House and Bodmin

And North Somerset is utterly clear… sigh i was hoping to get my snow boots out…
Thanks for link and pic. You have had little more than I had expected. To be more precise that 5 inches is almost twice as much what we have got here in Tampere this autumn Still it shoudn’t be any overwhelming odd even for a car with summer tyres as it looks quite wet.
A quote from Sky News:
Lorry drivers were advised to avoid the Rhondda area as some roads were impassable due to thick snow and some smaller roads were closed.
I think that it requires quite much more than that 5 inches of snow for road to be impassable. Only thing which came to my mind is that there are long and steep hills where lorries could get stuck.
Heard from Craig111 earlier, he could’nt get out of Cornwall to get to the airport! Dont think he was very impressed at the standards of driving, as you’d guess. See all those Westies Scanias stuck on the A30? Wonder how that effects the driving hours? Rest period? Driving? Loading time?
i just got back last night from aberdeen where the snow has definitely arrived, although not as bad as it was supposed to be. im gonna be honest and say i was bricking it at times. only done 2 winters as a driver, but this is my first one driving tankers, a bit heavier than what i was used to at the co-op.
also, correct me if im wrong but im sure i can remember a couple of years back it was found in court that the councils have no legal obligation to grit the roads. anyone remember this?
George Best, thanks for the memories R.I.P.
