First time on Truck Net, not very good with this computer world but will do my best. Went to Brian Hall’s funeral yesterday, the owner of Fearing’s Transport Burnley, as far as I could tell I was the only ex-fearings driver there, are there any more out there?

Hiya,
Well “Terryticker”, sorry to hear of Brian’s passing I worked for Fearing’s
firstly back in 1957 when Brian hadn’t been there very long and the job
was run by Matt Hall, how old was Brian I reckon about my age I’m 80, I
did return to Lebanon Street in about 1964 for a short while doing a bit
“of cash in hand” over the holiday period, I actually taught myself how
to drive artics when I worked for them the first time, no hgv licence in
those days if you could do it you did it, but I started my driving career
as a wag and drag man being taught in the army, I left Lancashire back
in 1972 and have lived in the North East ever since, nice talking to you
mate.I have a thread going called Fearing’s of Burnley it’s not very big
but quite a few stories and some pictures on there, worth a look.
thanks harry, long retired.
Hello Harry.
Thanks for the reply. I worked for Fearing’s from about 1972 to 1975 I did just over 3years. Matt was dead then so Brian was the gaffer, he was 75 when he died, he would have been 76 next month but he didnt make it sadly. I am 70 and I don’t know if you worked at any other east lancashire firms but I drove for Harry Fagan of Fagan and Whalley ( all Albion four wheelers then ) and Dutton Transport at Whalley in the 1960’s, then in the 70’s Fearings, Fagan and Whalley again, artic’s this time then Night Trunk for National Carriers at Burnley, then Donaghadee Carpets at Nelson. in the 80’s I got fed up with distance work and drove for the Water Board and finished my days as a shunter at Wm Blythe’s Church, Accrington. I must admit I enjoyed my time at Fearing’s the best, although you were lucky to get out of Burnley without breaking down until I got a new Motor. All the very best Terry.
Hiya,
Terry I thought Brian would have been a bit older than 75 as for me working
for other Lancashire outfits the answers a lot I did in my younger days do a
lot of cash in hand jobs, started my driving on casual duties for a long gone
firm aged just 21 driving an eight wheeler and trailer on the night trunk to
London, this job lasted about a month but did get called back with an offer
of a permanency some weeks later doing the same job, this company was
Stringfellows, but was working at Fearing’s driving the only Octopus and
drawbar on the tea job down to the smoke one night back to Burnley the
next but this was only while the driver was off sick other firms I’ve worked
for in no particular order have been.
BRS Blackburn (twice) I used to do an odd cheeky local job for J Sharples
a haulier who was based next door to the BRS yard on my days off a bit of
a sunglasses and blonde wig disguise job.
Bowkers Blackburn (twice)
Jos Walsh Darwen (twice)
Harwood Meggitt Darwen (twice)
Riding’s Longridge
Bob Bennett Bacup
J & E Transport Haslingden (twice)
Jacks Motors Blackburn
Kings Motors Blackburn
Deans Transport Darwen
Frank Barnes Darwen driving either a tipper or a mobile crane
Holt Lane (holiday relief) wag and drag
Walter Southworth (holiday relief) wag and drag

Did drive for a couple of firms in Leeds and finished my driving career in
the North East driving for four different hauliers before retirement.
