Bredbury test routes

Hi again,
so this time next Monday I have my test 8:50 am. Do they still have test routes available anywhere online? I found 3 examples but these look like for cars. I know I need to be able to drive anywhere as a truck driver but I have heard Bredbury can be one of the more difficult ones. I just want to plan and do a run again this week before my final lessons. Have a drive round in the car ect.

Why do you need to know them ?

The idea of not publishing them is so that they get drivers who can drive into unknown areas - just as they will do after passing

Unlike new car L drivers we are talking about experienced drivers doing an upgrade test !

ok makes sense- thanks

I took my test at bredbury I can’t remember her name but a woman took me for my test there and passed me.think I went towards Hyde and that way.

Im sure back in 97 I did my car test round there as I was working in Ashton under lyne. Im just gonna get out in the car anywhere really I think for practice. Not sure how the traffic will be at 8:50am im guessing fairly busy with the school runs. My training this weekend is around lunch time on purpose to get stuck into some traffic.

Remember the ’ 12 o clock ’ rule on the roundabouts on Bredbury test routes.

There are a few sneaky ones. Take care on Portwood roundabout too ( major one with the M60 going over it ). Bad one for late lane changing Audi ■■■■■.

I thought you drove a Ford? :open_mouth:

Thanks for the heads up! did portwood roundabout the other day and as its right near the test route I would be suprised if i didnt go that way! Just going to have to take it slow as traffic will be busy at that time lots of mums in thier porshe cayennes  range rovers, bmws and audis other than that - lovely

just thinking im sure most bus lanes are closed till around 9:30am so with my test at 8:50am theres everychance near the end of my test a lane might become open, things like this i will need to remember.

A good LGV trainer will take you to the nasty bits in their area to teach you how to negotiate them but for general driving it makes no difference on what roads you use to train on

Every road is going to have different conditions on it every time you drive it

agree  ive ditched the motorbike this week for work in exchange for the car to practice with  at the end of the day if i fail i fail and it must be for good reason but i dont plan to and I am still only half way through! I start at 11am sat/sun this weekend so im hoping its rammed with christmas shoppers hhahaha looking at the weather forcast its raining for the next couple of weeks so im expecting a bit of a slow one.

Passed class 1 today at Bredbury and never did the test routes as only had 4hrs as had trained elsewhere before but failed on obsevation but was going to be end of jan before retest. so took a pot shot at bredbury and i don’t even know the area, the roundabout as you come of the m60 to bredbury think jct 26 just near test centre has a pretty bad kerb so need to watch that on way back not sure if its the same one people mention. Also Mcvites need to straddle both lanes if asked to turn left and 1 more roundabout small one had to go right over onto other side of road to make sure not to hit the kerb but unsure of the name of the road.

I found it useful to use google maps on street view and go all around the main roads from the test center and just look at the junctions at lights etc if you can get round with out straddling lanes etc.

I trained in morcambe before and think its harder and tighter than bredbury but not as busy.

One warning i would give to people is to go and check trainers as i booked with a company near bredbury and got there and was amazed, appauled at the reversing practice area. Also the trailer was a small size one. devastated was not the word.

I knew from friends who say small trailers are a nightmare to reverse oh my god what a nightmare.

My last school had full sized trailer and so easy to reverse out of 15 reverses 15 in maybe 7-8 in one no shunt the rest 1 or 2 shunts all passes.

with a full size trailer 1 or 2 reverses would have been fine but 4 hrs i had trying to reverse this little trailer on uneven, potholes not properly marked out area maybe 10 went in with 2 shunts the other 10 fails, never even got time to go on the roads.

got to test centre used marks i had been using and ended up with trailer at nearly a 90 degree angle from reversing are nowhere near the 1st cone. had to take little shut forward to bring trailer a bit more near the cone and pretty much jack knife it to swing trailer onto the 2nd land near cones then a long shunt forward to straighten up for a straight reverse back into cones and got it F**k me do not ever train in a small trailer always ask.

I think it should be pinned to warn people, ok yes little bit better to drive forward but the reverse forget it you will use hours and hours trying to get it right.

But good look bud and don’t think to much, if you pass your ready for the roads if not it just means you need a little more training and you will learn from your mistakes. What ever happens keep on going you only really fail when you give in so keep going till you get it.

But i think the area is good nothing major to worry about maybe 1 or 2 places.

thanks for the reply!
I think we are tackling Mcvities this weekend! as you say if I pass then im ready if not then I need more training. Time will tell but hoping I am as a re-test is not cheap at £300 lol im hoping the yard is ok for reversing im sure the instructor said it was ok, the yard i practice in is on a slope and I need to use the accelarator pedal to get it to reverse so it gets a bit jerky otherwise it rolls forward. I have been ok though with that so far just dont like the jerkiness lol will see if i can work on that one. Observation I think is something i need to improve although many times i feel i am but its not showing so maybe i need to be more obvious that im checking  maybe shout it out “left mirror, right mirror, blind spot” going to be busy monday at 8:50am in the rain so i would have thought my route will be towards stockport via reddish towards Mcvities ect.

Rain is good, keeps people inside and a little less traffic, but traffic can make test route faster as you can’t get so far. I read about Mcvites on here so google street maps on street view and i could see what they mean after the bus lane ends stay in the middle all the way to traffic lights so your ready for the left turn.

I came out of the test center to the lights turned left i think towards denton hyde not sure i remember going past a subway on the right and a pub last orders on the left. I think 2 lights after that i was told right and the lights followed the road for some time i also remember coming to lights which i was told turn left but don’t indicate as i saw a road to the left before the lights, there was a metal bridge above it i think cream in colour maybe train lines above it and i think a pub on the left, quite tight so take that one wide then i remember a little mini roundabout and was told to go left again but i saw kerb stuck out on left so went right over the roundabout and was pretty much in the other side of the road but had time to get back in but had to wait for car to stop so i could get back over to my lane, i looked out of the corner of my eye and no pen movement so phewww. then a little later was told independent drive follow signs for manchester i think near a57? m67? (just looked on google maps) then told follow signs for stockport, m60 (junction 24 i think) came on m60 so had to move into 3rd lane, passed 1 junction then told follow for bredbury came of there and thats where tight kerb is near roundabout (think i scrapped it but again no pen movement Phewww) very busy was sat for maybe 40-50 seconds and a truck in the 1st lane to my right flashed me and held up traffic for me so i just had to watch traffic coming right round the round about and then off when had space, without that fellow trucker i think i would of been sat there 5 mins before a gap lol

If your from the area you may be able to work out which way i was taken, but that’s the best i can remember.

Good luck again for your test

thanks for the heads up lots of info there, hoping I get to cover some of it at weekend. Im guessing typicl time is around 90 minutes but that includes the reversing or is that on top? I think ive done the m67 bit the other day well I know I did so again hopefully we will go over all this again.

Hi yes around 1hr 20 mins i think i was, 50-55 min drive and 15-20 min reversing and uncouple. So 20 min sat in traffic is good if busy may keep you away from mcvites side of m60 as i guess would be mad busy that side had a friend who passed at bredbury a few months ago and he went in a similar direction to me.

Well done Biker10. You passed today. :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:      my turn Wednesday. Fingers crossed :unamused: :unamused:
