they mite of hired the saviam to clarks at the time just been to bolton woods the truck still there its needs a cab now its only done 30.000 miles

If thats the one on Stanley Rd its gone seems they have cleared the yard out everythings gone.

Billy Jackson did a bit for us at Transflash, then later did UK distribution and loading trailers for Interserve where I moved to - too many funny stories to recount them all, but one Friday evening he was waiting for a Portuguese wagon to load groupage when somebody came in and said he was up Birkshall Lane in a spot of bother… He had got wedged under the railway bridge, not stuck fast luckily and when I got there Billy was trying to extricate the wagon and drag, some concerned member of the public walking his dog shouted to him that he should have rung the British Rail contact number to report it - he got a gob full of Geordie cursing and half a brick lobbed in his direction for his concern

I have H.W.Davis to thank for all my driving, started with them at Baird tv (then was Goss), scenery and theatre work from fri night until mon morning then back to internal bay to bay work at Bairds. On to Vince Braithwaite of Leeds doing Italy and Germany for JPL.Moved on to N.McLLeland doing Italy again then bought own trucks with my brother Gordon and yet more Italy. Started rock & roll trucking in 1985 for Eurotrux nr Bristol until 91 moved over to Transam Trucking until 2003 did a couple of years for a Styrene company in Low Moor then retired to south of France thats virtually my whole working life in 6 lines.

That styrene companys still going ,they treat money like an endangered species according to some of their drivers ,i remember Mcllelands vaguely were they on wakefield rd ? i worked for colemans but not until `89 and uk only i did a odd trip abroad but liked my weekends at home ,great pics by the way

That styrene company bought 3 new 58 plate scanias earlier this year.
And if you can look past the er…bling it’s not a bad job. So i’ve heard.

I knew one or two old boys who drove for Bakers several years ago, Walter? I think he had the first 2800 DAF, Keith who had a Foden PUG 680 W, but the one who always springs to mind is Barry? who came to Gt.Yarmouth on holiday and took the trouble to look me up. He turned up on my doorstep one friday night completly out of the blue and I was pleased he took the trouble to find me. I wonder if he is still around, maybe you would know. Regards Haddy, (Dave from LG Perfect Haulage)

Didn’t Bakers F12 get smashed up ■■? I seem to remember it ending up in Crossroads yard at Birkenshaw when I was a young apprentice there early 80s but I may be mistaken
