bowmur haulage

fred fingers now lives on a barge at wheaton aston staffs, the gangster is no longer with us, but I think the punk is still trucking for pentalvers…

mopedmick:
i spent some time on the boxes in both 80s and 90s and enjoyed it down to the crack, there were some good local jobs then,(bakers of tipton) (s jones of aldridge) bowmurs had some good lads working for them,i remember waking up with a bad head on many occasions, i was back at it in the late 90s and many of the faces were the same, (the punk, fingers fred, gangster) and new chaps as well, although we had a good laugh i found the job was changing, more about timed deliveries and working late on the dock, not like in the 80s, if anyone has got photos of any of this bunch then please post them as i will be waiting to see some of the good times gone by

I remember them in Brownhills around 1974/5, very tight place which dropped down from the road into yard, it was owned by a wheeler dealer, if I remember right his name was George Seedhouse, I did hear he died many moons ago, Alan Suthan who owned STS (Aldridge) was a big mate of Alan Murrel and I believe he went to Pentalever as a director after STS went bump. Mostly bonneted Mercs then and boxes for Dart.

Hi all,

Goodways had 30 in this batch they were, N421 KGV -N435 KGV ,
( N436 -440 KGV Which ran in SCS Sabre -Light blue/white livery)
N445 -454 KGV …

Hope this helps…

can any of you remember the bowmur haulage of the 80s and 90s running out of cannock , i know they have been took over now by pentalvers but im interested more in these 2 decades, i would like too see any old photos or hear stories from the past and find out where people are today

weren’t the bosses called bowen & murrell or something

i remember the mercs they ran in the 80’s - used to put a few on for OCL out of the Trailer Park next door to Bham Freightliner.

They also had something to do with Box Consolidators Ltd - used to load groupage boxes out of their yard in Cannock

Mick Wigley who used to work in the traffic office told me they used to import cars from the States and a few of the staff, including him, had them as company cars.

yes brian bowen and alan murrell (deceased) they bought out all of griffiths fleet when they went bust. they ran out of castle street brownhills in the early days. ran scammell highwaymen units. also bonneted mercedes did cast and dart boxes if i remember right.

These were Chevrolet Camero’s, absolute stunning machines, went like the proverbial of a shovel up the M6

Did Bowmurhave any Scania 111s i remember there 113 were they ex Russell Davies

in the earlier years they had some old 1418 bonneted mercs as well as a mix of volvos and mercs, some of which were LHD, about 85 i think was the start of the love affair with scanias which were 112s, then in around 2000 they couldnt get enough new trucks so had too buy second hand which will explain your question about RDs,there were some tetley tea motors aswell from fradley

look on utube

thats an ex russell davis.

■■■ on boys & girls look thru your old photos & post em on ere

are you sure its a ex r/d motor alex■■? as i had N430 KGV at goodways i think you may find it was a gts motor if i remember rightly as they too had a full fleet of N… KGV, scanias

but the driver of the yellow peddle reg no AY04HFV will be right as normal i guess
