Well i’m thoroughly cheesed off, the good old DeWalt Challenger 2 Goretex boots which i’d worn for years as comfy light and tough as you could wish for are no longer made, they’re been superceeded by Challenger 3.
Of which i bought a pair about 3/4 months ago, oh dear
Firstly the soles are not as comfy soft and springy as the 2’s were and that lovely snug felt like you’d been wearing them for 6 months the first time you slipped them on is no longer there, nowhere near as nice for walking and i know people who used them as general footwear so comfy were they.
Next thing really cheapened is the laces, half the bloody thickness of the old ones which would last the life of the boot, and yes those thin little buggers on the new boots failed completely last week.
They do seem to be slightly more grippy than the previous soles, and only time will tell if the 3 stands up to the rigours of my now relatively easy life as well as No2 did.
So chaps, where i would once have sung the praises of DeWalts Challenger boots, the three is not a patch on the previous model IMHO…if you liked the 2 there are a few pairs lurking about still at one or two of the usual online tool sites, so if you use that boot and want to be able to carry on doing so get cracking before they all vanish, i’m just about to order one of the last pairs of size 11’s from ToolBrittania @ a good price.
V12 or Ambler. Both are inexpensive for the quality, I have been very impressed by both. Also I spent 75p on a long arm shoe horn, helps extend the life of a boot. I got a year out of both, which for me is double the length of any others I have had, as I’m hard on boots.
Just bought a pair of Dunlop boots from Sports Direct, only £23.
Surprisingly comfortable, and nice and wide (I’ve got feet like an ironing board ).
Very light as well, they feel like slippers compared to the V12 I had previously.

ive been buying them for years. Really comfy and good value, after years of more expensive boots letting me down.
I do find the the soles start going after around a year, but hey, what do you expect for that price
I’ve currently got a pair of Dickies Medway hiker which I’ve been impressed with so far compared to last pair I had of scrub boots which were poor and only lasted 6 months as they split and let water and were useless for the job I do as I deliver precast concrete products to building sites and as u can imagine at the min certain jobs are ankle deep in mud and the dickies have stood up well to that ! . If u want a pair of dealer boots I’d buy Buckler there probably the best boots I’ve ever had and they stand up well to anything .
Another vote for Buckler , had a pair of dealer boots for a couple of months now .really comfy .
Had a pair from screwfix previously , ‘site’ dealer boots , rubbish rubbed my feet something terrible and stitching started to fail 2 months in .

Have you look on Ebay or Amazon for old stock.
Bugger, i may have to.
When i went to order those Challenger 2’s the order was actually for 3’s, so it would appear the usual places are out of stock now and i aint paying £90 when they should be around £75, sod 'em rather bloody hobble.
Thanks for the mention of the other makes chaps, back to the drawing board…can’t see me in those steelie flip flops somehow, i look a right bugger anyway without it being from head to hidden big toe.
