About 15 to 20 minutes before it departs, pay attention to the tannoy announcements if you are downing a few sherberts before you get on in the bar.
To get in you show the passport, they give you a ticket to get out to the truck again, through the turn style.Good offers in money exchange by the car park where they make the cars wait to go on before they get in the port.
You may not get a cabin to yourself, i made out i had a contagious disease, that did not work either.
Good food on board, you get a discount with the ticket, free tea/coffee in the drivers lounge.
Lots of noisy schooll kids run around, and you can hear them in the cabin, i call them little elephants, it is like a stampede and the teachers allow them to vent off some steam to make them tired at the other end.
Used to be a cracking crossing …as Toby says 15- 20 mins before scheduled departure but I’d leave at least 30 - 45 mins to be on safe side … At least the time your sailing might be quiet

Toby , when was the last time you visited Portsmouth.? If you mean that horrible green building for the money exchange, it’s been pulled down, you can only change currency inside the terminal building now, which has been rebuilt, btw.
Also, when you get your meal now, just present your cabin key, the person on the till scans the barcode on it to prove you are a driver, for your discount. Same again when you go for the free coffee/tea., which is now only available in the self-serve cafeteria.
Personally I try to avoid night crossings, not had to board one in 6 months, shipping Monday 1445.
thanks for the replies guys
Did you have a good crossing Neil?
Where abouts you off too?
leave tonight,
got irun,pamplona and barcelona.
I wish i was going to Irun/Pamplona and Barcelona, it is free to park in the docks, there is or was a Petromirales garage that has a cafe, hot meals, then get the night bus to Barca.
