blues and twos

cracker-bar, I understand completely my Mums late husband was a fireman in Manchester and they retired to Wales moons ago, he told me some stories and some he cried which was humbling for a big man.

You cant cut vital services and I have friends who are paramedics and Ambulance crew and to cut costs the control centres are being merged, in fact I delivered a FLT to a redevelopment site in Bootle that will be basically a regional 999 centre and the worrying thing is this going to be contracted out to a call centre in the future?

As I said, take a quid a week extra from me to give me confidence my family and myself have a chance in an emergency.

Think long and hard before going through Red lights as if anything goes wrong you will be hung out to dry :exclamation:

The worst thing about this dispute Drift, is that we are not asking for anything more, just to be left where we were, instead of us paying more into a pension that eventually gives is less back, for longer, and having the threat of dismissal under capability when we can no longer meet the physical level required by dint of being asked to work to 60, an age at which it is almost impossible to pass the physical test imposed.

if I were to play devils advocate there are lots of jobs where people struggle when they get older. the building industry being a prime example of this. The majority of people don’t have the benefit of a pension funded by future generations to fall back on.

As a result of this they either plan to move up the career ladder where the roles are less labour intensive or alternatively plan for an different career.

and that exactly what firemen did most plan to retire at 50-55 before infirmity kicks in on the pension they have contributed to and good luck to them they have earned it . but now the govt have come along and imposed that they must work until 60 pay more into their pension (currently 11%) to get less when they retire ? oh and if you fail your physical you will be dissmissed and cant access your pension for seven years afterwards sorry if my employer tried that with me i would be strait out on strike
good luck to them i say
