Had my first ever blow out today on m4 quarter of mile before Taunton Deane services at 430 this morning
Didn’t realise how much damage can be done when this happens and it was quite a scary experience
Was running at 44 t with a loaded tanker
Middle near side tyre in trailer went bang and took out both mudguards, air bad, hub dust cover and near side tail light

I would image most drivers with a few years service have had at least one. I remember stopping on the weighbridge at Felixstowe one night only to be overtaken by my own trailer wheels. Axle sheared and double wheels, brakes, the lot wizzing past me onto the trailer park. I had a high speed blowout on a trailer tyre as a car overtook me on A1, big bang and lots of dust. Scared the crap out of the car driver.
Only ever had a blowout in an old classic mini I had on my way to pick up girlfriend from school. Did a 180 degree spin at about 30mph much to the amusement of my girlfriends classmates who were stood outside the school waiting to be picked up.
I also had one in an old DAF 7.5t, but it was stationary and my head was beside the tyre as it blew… Bloody painful I tell you!
I had a front offside blow out 9 years ago, 2 weeks in hospital, 4 operations, 6 months off work, right ankle shattered now contains 2 plates & 13 screws to hold it all together. Broke right leg, knee cap down to the bone, cracked 2 ribs and broke wrist in 2 places. So yes having a blow out can cause a bit of damage.
Back in the olden days there were these things called spare wheels and rumor has it,drivers carried contraptions such as jacks, wheel braces and the like.

I’ve had two on bikes, both on the M6. First; midnight, outside lane to hard shoulder horizontal, me, gf and the bike. Second; 7am going to work, managed to manhandle it from L2 to hard shoulder still vertical! No injuries but brown trousers doesn’t cover it.
Not personally, but had a Scania blow the midlift wheel while overtaking me. Just a large boom and showered with bits of rubber. Then backed off to let him escape to the Hard shoulder.
Unlucky sod was about 100 yards past Southwaite Services too.
Had a n/s front go bang just after tibshelf serv’s M1 northbound many moons ago and seen the tyre(or what was left of it) barrelling down the banking as I came to a stop thank god I was only carrying light white goods.
Hate to think what it would be like if I was fully freighted.
I had a front offside tyre blow out at 56mph on the middle of the Severn Bridge when fully freighted and it didn’t move the truck off-course by even the slightest degree, I heard it but I didn’t even feel it through the steering wheel.
Had this happen 2 weeks ago just before J16 M1 @56, HA escorted me to layby near red lion to await repair, no other damage but it did take 3 hours to get going again £££
1st blow out doing 70+ in mk 2 cavalier on M42 (over 25 years ago)
scared crap out of me
Middle axle on flat bed with a container on about 10 years ago… M1 J18 on a saturday midday… 20 minutes from yard then ten minutes from home spoilt my day of fun
last year again M42 , at M6 spilt FNS bang again scare crap out of me. meant to be helping client out, ended up 14 hour shift lol
100km/h M1 near Brisbane. O/S inner on middle trailer went with an almighty bang. Not real heavy with nappies for Aldi, (could probably have sold a few to the poor sod in the car next to it) but it was a real bugger getting the inner wheel off, specially with all that ■■■■■■■ steel hanging out of it. Luckily no other damage though.
Once had a front off side let go while doing 60’ish’ at the bottom of Keele bank on the M6. Focuses the mind let me tell you. Came to a stop right under J15. ATS wouldn’t touch it til HATO had coned off lane 1. They did and then there was an accident when Johnny Foreigner pulled into lane 2 and didn’t see the car there. This was 7pm on a friday. I was Mr. Popular believe me.
