Bloody lanes coned off!

James the cat:
They’ll stop coning off when we and car drivers stop squashing their workers like nine pins.

Even for grass cutting

If you was a road worker what would you want? 2 lanes of clearance or work with just a cones width of safety with everyone flying past, yes they are a pita but I know what I would want.

Aren’t the people who do the actual roadworks and the cone people 2 separate groups?

Fairly certain that it kinda works like this:

Team roadwork come get told to cone off lanes 1 and 2 of the M1 junction 16 to 18 at 8pm and then being them back in at 2am

Team does sweet FA, sorry, team roadwork is given a job on that section of the M1 to replace 5 inches of Tarmac. But they can’t be bothered that night so don’t show up.

Team roadwork come have no idea and don’t care if the work has been done or not as they’re just there to put cones out and take them back.

lobby your mp to fill the centre of the mtorway with concrete and put massive plastic legobricks down the middle.no grass,no grass cutting,no delays…when theres an accident,a hiab just replaces them, works like that in a lot of france with no problems.a 1 off payment for concrete and no maintenance for life. in eire, then have a few maintenance trucks with big flashing arrows driving down the outside lane at the rear of the tractor cutting the grass…rolling lane closure, wakens you up working out where the hell to aim for,but works a doddle…

Temporary traffic lights annoy me when all the work’s being done on the verge. Some works only need a few priority signs up like when going through speed chicanes but someone has decided it would be better if we all sit and watch two men watch the digger.

There was a program on TV only a couple of weeks ago about Road Repairs and the Workforce,it was scary to say the least at some of the antics so called “Drivers” get up to,even when there are signs and overhead gantry warnings.
I would sooner adhere to the signs than cause a death just for the sake of half an hour, dare say the Families of the workers injured or killed wished others thought the same.

Their’s nothing like hearing the sound of a trailer bouncing off a vario guard at 3am
when working on a motorway job. Totaly agree the amount H&S bull on these jobs is unreal. But its not untill you spend time working next to live traffic you realise just how many close calls, near misses there are. I have had a line of traffic follow me into a works access because they were just following and not paying any atention to what there doing. We get traffic cut through cones when slips are closed because they want that juction and the fact its coned off dont apply to them.
Or you could look at it another way. Since were all so ■■■■■ at are jobs its done to protect you from some idot grab driver like me making a mistake and sending my crane out over live traffic and putting 800l clam shell through your bleedin windscreen.

Or they just close the road totally

The worst I have seen recently was a roadworks sign but we all had to move to outside lane of M1 3 lanes down to 40mph the roadworks were 4 mile ahead why for so long can understand 1.5 mile moving us over & slowing down to 50 mph only to find there was 1 small van working on other side of barrier on hard shoulder :unamused:

I think you have to be a night driver to understand how frustrating this really is. Especially when there doesn’t appear to be anyone actually working!

I can’t remember the last run I did without diversion or disruption due to lane closure.

Finally,someone who ‘gets it’…and yes,I am a night driver.

It’s a night driver thing then. If it were the night closure diversion topic I’m sold. Most of the UKs planned night diversions were designed by clowns with big shoes and spinning bow ties.

You should have a roadworks mode on to the tachos that calculates how far you have went and adjusts the driving time accordingly…

the other night the M61 was down to one lane ( all i saw was 2 guys looking at a barrier ) and i used up 35 mins of driving to go about 4 ■■■■■■ miles and ended up running out of driving time !!

it may be ok if your doing local runs and your paid by hour but when you are trunking 4+ hours down the road and it happens, it is a pain !!
