Hi you spotted my deliberate mistake

lol just read through the thread …and remembering my one and only removals load …well i had tipped at Dyce airport (wagon &drag) in the 80s and phoned in and was told to go to Shore porters society at Aberdeen and phone back from there seems it was a flitting and they were moving to dumfriesshire less than a mile from our yard
.After arriving at the yard and phoned in i was told tae drop the drag and follow a van wae a bunch o porters in tae Torry estate (rough, rough).
So i arrive and ask what to do,the head porter brings out ramps frae the van and puts them on tae the back o the wagon then brings his wee van behind my wagon.
His answer is lock your cab doors DONT under no circumstances leave the wagon /wee van unatended as the locals would have it away wi the lot. seems a month earlier on another job in the scheme someone borrowed the mirrors of the removal van while they were loading :open_mouth:
Well the guys had me loaded by afternoon and i was home by friday ,boss took my wagon round tae the new house and a north bound SPS truck/crew unloaded on a saturday…
jimmy.

Hi Jim.
Changed days on the removals job my dad was a Dairyman at Calfpark farm Mouswald you would be looking down onto that before you moved away Jim, Anyway he got a job on the railway based at Kirkconnel we moved up there in 1953 and it was Mick Haytons float or cattle truck as our English readers will know it. In them days all farm workers removals were done with the local livestock haulier
Are you on the winter layoff now Jim it is mild here for the time o year and lang may it continue.Eddie

aye just finished …quarries shut about -12c high feels like- 20c wae the wind. to dangerous wae the sand etc sticking in the box.
aye right enough my dad always flitted wae one o the floats. a always mind he had tae pick his /an the other workers coal up Sanquar way for a couple o years in the 60s (shoveled of intae bags and carried into the coalsheds ). sorry folks back tae removals

THE FIN103:
Hi lads its of topic but any news on those poor blokes who lost their lives in cadogan square ?

Two men who died after they fell from a balcony at Cadogan Square in west London have been named by police.

Tomasz Procko, 22, and Karol Szymanski, 29, had been delivering sofas to the Knightsbridge property on Friday morning when the balcony collapsed.

Mr Procko, of Greenford, west London, died at the scene while Mr Szymanski, of Wembley, north-west London, died later in hospital.

Both men were originally from Poland. Their next of kin had been informed.

RIP

Did they work for a removal company or were they subbies? Not that it matters as we all take chances! Thoughts go to their families. RIP.

^^^ Not sure as that has not yet been made clear, also, in all the photo’s that I’ve seen, there was never any large van or lorry in view. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

Picture I found on ebay a few weeks ago .

The joys of a removals man’s job, today in Strathpeffer, parked on a junction (school and houses) side ramp on to top of garden path steps, then up path to steps into house, north westerly blowing with a good helping of sleet, I reckon they’re thinking best thing about the Highlands is the road south to London
Oily

I can’t stand that clown waster Peter Andre on TV with his ‘Makeover’ program, but Martell’s of Sutton must think the sun shines out of his behind with the publicity they get from the program.

Just saw a long lingering shot if one of their vans on my screen

Yes Oily , not good parked there but at least they got there ramps across, nothing worst than a long upwards slog before you get to the house to find , more steps to upstairs :smiling_imp:
