Hi
Lambs was up for sale last year, I think a brother and sister owned it (I could be wrong) and was retiring.
Perhaps someone knows if it was purchased and by who

Gauntlet’s Bedford Boalloy Pantechnicon 6 weeler

Unusual removal truck there Carl. I remember Gauntlett from back in the day, IIRC they used to run regularly down to Portugal (hence the TIR plate)! From what I can make out its an “M” reg which would make a 1973-74 year of manufacture / registration!

I cant ever remember seeing a removal truck with two axles at the rear. I remember a few Chinese sixes but never a twin rear axled one!

Hi Bullitt,

Like you I agree a very unusual van. I wonder what they were carrying that needed the extra weight?
If I was running overseas and needed a six wheeler I certainly would not have used a Bedford as if it was carrying that weight over a longish route the 466 cu in engine would be struggling. Also the body? I think Gauntlet tended to use Marsden in those days. We had one or two Boalloy and they used to have vibration problems and needed a lot of bodywork maintenance. I remember one occasion when a windscreen fell out, as the standard of workmanship on the fibreglass cab was so poor. I would have been looking for something like an AEC or ERF with a Marsden Body in M Reg days if I needed a 6 wheeler for continental work.

Don’t forget it would only have had a 4 maybe 5 speed gear box!!! No range change, no splitter, no air assisted clutch, probably no power steering, no A/C, no night heater and the cruise control was a piece of wood!!

Good times!

Here’s a photo I took at truckfest Scotland in the mid 90’s. regards prattman.

Given it’s a 6-legger I’ve got the feeling this wagon may have been ex-Giltspur Bullen.
