Thanks, Dean, We had Marsden build quite a few trailers for us before Vanplan split away and on that occasion We had two trailer chassis in Marsdens at the same time as 2 in Vanplan fot 4 bodies in Thorn Livery. The price of each was the same and the end products were identical but it helped make them competitive on delivery dates and I think it pushed them both on a bit and we got them on the road a bit earlier. Had we known Vanplan were going to photograph we would have made sure our Leyland Comet Tractor unit had clean wheels

Helping my brother clear out his house, prior to sale, we came across the photo of the interior of one of Dad’s vans. It must have been taken before 1948 as Dad’s removals business was nationalised then. I can vaguely read EO without a prefix and four numbers. So, an old Barrow registration. What was unusual for the time was that Dad built his own bodies - in aluminium. He was the type of bloke who could do anything - as I remember he told us that he did the signwriting too. The photo of his yard in Salthouse Rd shows a couple of the vans. Perhaps he should have specialised in building van bodies, it looks professional. When I was about 12 he bought a chassis from Peak Trailers at Stockport and built his own caravan, with a large sliding back door. There was still A B and C licensing then, so he built the caravan to bring larger goods from Manchester back to Barrow for the shop he had then. He could close the curtains and the cops didn’t bother him. And of course we used it for holidays too!

Hello John ,

Thank you for showing us the lovely old photos ,and yes the body looked very nice ,plenty of raves .
