Hello John ,

Another photo i found on ebay , X1HVJ “the hoff” and Matty on the M4 by Membury services ,on the way back from the Swindon Hospital after delivering a full load of hospital beds and collecting the old ones to deliver back to our local hospital for scrap ,summer of 2020 .

Pickfords,back in the day…

Credit where credit’s due Dean, you don’t half know how to wind us lot up :grimacing:

To be fair they were the bees knees back in the 60’s and 70’s. However with all the different owner’s buying
and selling them over the years they were nothing special by the 90’s, and used alot of hired labour. You only
had to look at the state of there trucks. They were rough and thats how much the standards had dropped since
the 60’s,70’s and 80’s !

You may find this inresting from 1976.

This truck was probably from a batch of chassis that was originally an order for BRS Truck Rental for standard (24’ box bodies) D1614’s that was cancelled. IIRC the order was for 150 chassis from Ford. Pickfords had the chassis lengthened in order to have a body that could take 4 containers instead of the standard 3 container body that they had always ordered. However the Inverness reg plate is a bit of a mystery as all these vehicles would have been registered in Enfield and I don’t recall that the Inverness depot was equipped to take containers in 1981-2.

Hello John , ha ha there is no where to park there with out being on the double yellows ,to the right of the photo are a set of pedestrian gates

which lead to a long path down to the old canal, the flats are on the right ,in fact if you walked along a bit ,you see the old ARCHER COWLEY depository warehouse .

Great pictures OIly !!1

I never understood why so many people rated those Vanplan bodies. I had one but much preferred Vancraft bodies as
much stronger and better built in my opinion.

Thats bad news JAKEY, sorry to hear that about your brother. :frowning:

He was unlucky to break his foot . He will have to be careful not to rush coming back, as going up and down the ramps (angle)
will soon bugger up his foot again. :unamused:

Very unlucky chap.
