I think tha Chaversdad means that the bling is paid for by the customer by way of profits made in running a for hire and reward haulage operation. Surely making a profit is the very reason for going into business? I can’t imagine that if you were the customer you would refuse to use any haulier who didn’t turn up in a bobby basic Mitsubishi Canter, because any more than that means that they’re making too much money, and only YOUR business is allowed to make a profit!
Yes I understand all that but imagine you ordered something for home delivery, say a sofa from DFS and there were 2 delivery price options £25 for a standard vehicle or £30 for one with a bull bar and 8 spotlights on the roof and chrome plated wheels which one would you choose?
I was’t aware that it was common practice to charge more for a delivery on a blinged up truck! Maybe we should post this on the o/d forum as they’ve obviously been missing a trick.

I did not say blinged up truck deliveries cost more, but the haulier’s customer would have no idea know how the bling had been funded, and therefore their perception could be that they were possibly paying more than they needed to in order to contribute to the bling element of the trucks running costs. So in essence a blinged up truck may put customers off from repeat business.
I want the post office to come round in full bling. Medallions the lot. Even put grolsch bottle tops on their shoes.
That way the neighbours will think I’m paying extra for the great service they provide.

I know of several high profile customers who use certain Hauliers because they have blinged up trucks
There’s two of these trucks , and I’m guessing the kangaroos are in maidenhead as that’s where there
.
Having driven down under I can tell you that’s a ■■■■ poor Roo bar…looks like it would fold into the cab if it hit something hard .

I can see the point, it doesn’t look right with a blinded up puddle jumper
I’d take the cheaper delivery option anyway

Yep, the Country and Western one, and the Pirates of the Caribbean one. The Pirate one gets into Earthline, I think the driver of the C&W one must be afraid of the tip at Shipton.
As a truck salesman based in a dealership I’m always amused when firstly the customer pushes and pushes to get a fuel figure out of you and is adamant the mpg is the reason he is buying and then haggles you down to the last £50, only to order the truck, spend £3k painting it and then adding top and bottom lightbars, adding weight and losing mpg
Although having said that I wish more customers would paint/bling our T Range’s as they look so much better away from all white.
im not bothered about mpg ( wife is but hay hoo lol) must sound good look good drive good and must not do less than 56mph

that have lasted in the game for all of 5 minutes.

My thoughts maybe quite surprising given how I’ve posted before on the topic of bling.
I was a tramper and never felt the interest in putting much into my truck as was moving on. That said, I did feel a bit regretful that I didn’t relax long enough to put a few touches on the vehicle. I was quite proud of the thing and actually had more than a passing interest in the job as a result of riding in a truck as a kid. Its just personal taste.
Some trucks I see and think “how embarrassing” but some trucks still appeal to my 10 year old self and do look quite impressive. Even my little 3 year old niece admires the trucks with lights and smoke stacks. They can look impressive (thinking Thorburns/Geoff Gilbert type stuff)
I went for an interview in the early 2000s at a certain burgundy and grey liveried potato haulier in Boston. I was told that they expect motors to be kept top notch. They added drivers can add bits and bobs to the vehicle and the cost would be taken out of pay or holiday. He finished off adding there was a waiting list. The pay was usually bad for the area. This astonished me. I felt quite angry afterwards at the notion and never mind their waiting list, had no intention of darkening their doorstep if I was expected to pay for their image. My take on it was split then.
It comes down to these points for me:-
I see no harm whatsoever in someone taking pride in something they use as home all week if it’s not expected of them. If its their hobby as well, who am I to castigate if it brings them pleasure in their lives. So LONG as it isn’t affecting terms and conditions in the industry.
I do have a very very large problem with hauliers who expect and encourage tarting up vehicles for their own image and self gain: expecting drivers to pay.
I would take a really dim view if I thought adding accessories to trucks brought down the wages, as mentioned above, in the case of transport firms who encourage it, maybe, but I can’t see it affecting wages in those firms who are indifferent. The pay-for-bling brigade of hauliers would pay low wages regardless no doubt.
