On the same road in a village in Dorset, the nimbys ain’t happy and are trying to get all lorry drivers executed…or something along those lines
The IRF lorry in the first video had a bit more room to his left by the looks of it. Melbury Abbas should be one way for lorries and the other way should use the A350.
Bound to happen really. Unavoidable. Why no one has yet designed a truck with a reverse gear I`ll never understand.
Any warning signs ■■ Or a better route ■■
Bit like trying to get to Nailsea on the B3130 clevedon road from the Star Inn down into Nailsea itself,no fun meeting another truck coming up the hill mirrors in and in the hedge job to squeeze past.
Few places its truck or 2 cars only not a lot of room.
The Melbury Abbass road is not suitable for any size of LGV, the same for the other route, if you are heading South via Melbury, and meet another lorry going North , it is game over , and you can be stuck for hours, if you are in a lorry going South and meet cars coming down the hill , going North , then again, you are stuffed, loss of traction, cars behind you, cars coming down the hill .
You clear some cars, then get moving again, then more cars come around the corner.
I witnessed two lorries jammed by the house with the Lgv statistics board on the wall, an artic going South ,a rigid going North met on the bend, the artic nudged passed, and as it went by, the rigid had its drivers side cab window broken by the mirror arm popping in .
Thought i recognised it from the videos! I drive through here in the nights and have heard a few stories. Big sign saying Village Of The Jammed on the wall and like above said, statistics saying how many hgv been stuck, how long stuck for etc. Theres one hell of a hill coming out either way too. Sure they have been trying to get message across for drivers to go in one way and out the other.
I don’t know that particular road but looking on Google Maps signs at the junction with the A30 westbound show it as an LGV route for Poole & Blandford, surely that can’t be correct when the A350 is only a bit further on. Google Maps

Youre making a fair point: why doesn
t the council put in a width limit sign at one end of the road, (no access allowed) with a signed diversion (leading to the other end of the road) for vehicles over the limit? One way trucks, two way cars. Not rocket science.
I’m surprised all the held-up traffic didn’t use the other side of the IRF motor.
The 2nd one is down to speed . Road narrows you only gotta look at road markings to see that
Melbury in any direction, when its raiming, or icy or snowing, forget it , you will lose traction, then an expensive crane job and make it on the HTV news .
The small and narrow hamlets on the A350 are no better in bad weather.
One hamlet has a flashing large vehicle approaching sign, but cars take no notice.
No room on the bends for a lorry and a car.
The better route would be via Yeovil to Dorchester to Blandford to Poole, good route with some dual carriageway and no hills.
Or A36 Salisbury, mind that low bridge at Wilton, then to Bournemouth direction to Poole.
Melbury is not worth the grief, and who has the time to record times for stricken Lgvs on the statistics board at the cottage on the bend.
The noise of lorries must be bad.

It’s supposed to be the lorry route south between Shaftesbury and Blandford , while the a350 is the lorry route north, there is a mobile matrix sign at the top Blandford by the new lidl giving directions it’s been up there for a couple of years now.
