Hi All, does anyone know of Birdale Transport they did Middle East etc in the 70s, as a Scania apprentice at that time I remember servicing a Scania 140 that belonged to them a very nice motor, left ■■■■■■, air con, roof rack ladders etc but I never new anything about them, in the “Beyond The Bosphorus” book there is a picture of Ford Transconti and also a very small picture of a Scania in Rawalpindi this could be the one I worked on ? any pictures or stories would be much appreciated grey cab with big Orange stripe.■■
My father owned this Transcontinental that was theirs from new.the picture is before we owned it.
We part exchanged a scania 80 super for the ford in 1979/80 at a scania dealers called Hamblins,in Rushton Northamptonshire .
Birdale was run from a depot on A229 Chatham Road, Maidstone by Eric Wilson. Nice guy who had a number of owner drivers working for him on Middle East traffic - I particularly remember a black Transcontinental that he operated.
At the top of this page there is a search box on the right hand side.
That will bring a few bits up, there is also a bloke called Truckerash who knows everything.
Also one of the old drivers pops in occasionally
