BIG money jobs

Speaking to a fellow mobile crane operator recently, and he explained that he used to operate cranes on an oil rig 10 years ago and was earning £700 per day. He also mentioned that the drillers there earned £1200 per day, their supervisor £1500 per day. He came away from that work because staying away from home for such long periods just became tiresome.

Then he mentioned that his nephew started as a labourer for a wind turbine manufacturer 5 years ago, now earns £800 per day travelling the globe as an installer.

Anyone else have knowledge of these types of incomes in these industries or similar?

The guys erecting the new Coldstore at our place are reputedly on £400 a day but because of delays beyond their control are on a grand a week bonus for meeting their targets. Watching them crawl around up there in high winds and rain I think that they deserve every penny that they earn. Huge cojones.

Wish I knew about these jobs earlier in life :open_mouth:

Our local council estate seems to have Range Rover sve , rs6 Audis , Amg mercs outside the houses , I’d suggest asking them what they do but they all seem to have those great big dogs all over the news so maybe not a good idea
One of the lads I knocked around when younger did a building course at college , he now drives a new Range Rover , has a new dirty great pickup & last I saw his mrs she drove a newish s5 Audi , has a massive house in the country
I have a half brother who went to university & is now at the top at Tate & Lyle , million pound house , million pound holiday home , pension is maxed out , his bonus going back 20 yrs + I’d guess is more than I earn in a year now , different world to what I live in , 10 yrs ago I’d guess , most of his days were on a train from London to Brussels
My half brother was always top at everything , so no suprise he ended up where he is , others above are whether you’re prepared to take a risk , running your own building firm , or in first example a fair few years banged up .
I know plenty who came with me when they first passed there lorry test who are now area / depot managers , that’s about drive , my mrs has always described me as a plodder , happy to plod through life . She’s right
Nb remember money does not always make you happy , I’ve a mate who’s well off , divorced 4 times & has no contact with his children , as I say money does not always bring you happiness

To be fair, having been in the industry for a short while and speaking to other drivers, £70k is the norm if a lot of overtime is worked. £80k, £95k and £100k are figures often being spoken about. Even the crane fitter workshop managers in certain areas are on about £130k with all the overtime and breakdown call-outs (allegedly).

It will be even easier to earn that £70k if/when the new pay deal goes through in October at Ainscough.

sorry meant to say it was the guys that unload the shipping container and cargo ships at south ampton docks
