Best way to study for theory test

Hi all, newbie here. Looking to get my C license

Im due my medical tomorrow, will then send off for my provisional license and start looking at training options.

Im just looking at the options for studying for the theory. There seems to be so many ways to study. Have already bought the official DVSA books; ‘offical driver CPC’ + ‘official theory test for driving large vehicles’ + ‘offical guide to driving large vehicles’ which arrived today. It also looks like there are iPhone/iPad apps, DVDs, online courses, PC programs then whatever the training centres offer.

Any thoughts on which options are best? Kind of think just the multiple choice questions I can learn from the books. Then for the hazard perception maybe use an iPad app. Then again maybe there is just one app that covers everything? Not sure…

What do you guys think?

Well done! I have recently done all my theory tests. Know your roadsigns! You will be asked a few questions at the end of your practical test - mine was what does the GREEN SQUARE displaying an R mean! (In the highway code book!). How many types of pedestrian controlled crossings are there and can you name them all! (hint: There are 5 of them!). It was my mistake for telling the examiner that I was IAM and should know this stuff.

If you read the official book and you are a ‘logically minded’ person you will know how to answer the questions, some of the questions are so simple they literally shout at you, the difficulties are the case studies which you cannot find any books for them. They are just working scenarios, can you identify a truck from a photo, Jane goes to bed at 11pm after drinking alcohol, what time can she legal start driving again, etc. They are logical questions mainly but contained in the official book!

Malcom Green does a good book with the questions and some practical advice for new drivers.

Advice - Book and do all 3 tests together! (Mod 2 is only done at some sites, look further afield) Long waiting lists! Part Mod 1a&b (Haz and Theory) and the case studies which is Mod 2. (Mod 3 is practical test and Mod 4 is Initial CPC, you can do Mod 4 before 3, if you have Mod 1 and 2 i think).

One Golden Rule with Hazard perception tests - when you spot a potential hazard in the footage say ‘BANANA!’ and then click the mouse!
One Golden Rule of the Theory test is RTFQ (Read the fec*ing question).

I scored 98-100% in all Three.

Your CPC starts from the date of issue of the card only as does your tacho card, wait till you you send your license in after you pass, 2 have 5 years life on them. As I’m an old git, my license and medicals are 5 years, not sure for younglings.

Really?? Questions haven’t been asked at the end of the test for the last 20+ years - - since the introduction of the theory test.

Kind of think just the multiple choice questions I can learn from the books.

Make sure you fully understand the subject - not just learning the questions and answers.

Doing the same, waiting on the licence to come back, have apps on my phone that practice with.

One thing i can recommend is read the question, then the answers and read it again and slowly read it again, they can be worded in tricky ways

That makes sense.
